Heating issue

Hi, can anyone help. I've probably posted on the wrong topic, but here goes. I bought an apartment in the summer with an overnight water tank and electric heaters in each room. It's freezing, and the weather isn't that bad yet and is costing a fortune to run. I've enquired if I can get gas in the property as others on the complex do. But this isn't straightforward at all and will cost.
Can anyone recommend a good electric heating system with a hot water tank that will be cost-effective and warm?

Are your electric heaters actual storage heaters or the instant switch on/off type?

There the switch on ones which apparently cost a fortune to run

To be honest I think all electric radiators are shit and cost a fortune to run. You'd be better off just using fan heaters until you can get gas as they don't cost anywhere near what the radiators do to run

It sounds as if you have basic convector heaters and an immersion heater (an electric heated coil in your water tank).

The water heating should be on a timer. Easy to fit if you don't have one. Limit your use to heating water for showers in the morning and a small amount in the evening.

Room heating - are you there regularly every night or are you the sort who comes and goes at all different times. If you have a regular routine, electric storage heaters are pretty good but rely on you needing heat at the same time every day.

If not, check what your neighbours used.

OP, Is your flat modern and well insulated with recent double glazing?

biedrona · 12/11/2024 17:23

Electric is shit

Are you on economy 7 so the water heats overnight at cheap rate?

Oil filled electric radiators that you can move around are the cheapest way to warm rooms for the time being.

Thanks, everyone. It's a pulse coil water heater. It has two switches. I'm not sure which one to leave on all the time and which one is the boost. I'm going to get it serviced and hopefully a timer on it. I'm currently just pressing both switches, leaving an hournthen just have enough for a shower/dishes. I live alone, so it's not that too much of a hassle.

Think the flat is 20 years old, with probably the original double glazing. Its energy rating is c.

I've asked a neighbour and they said there's was warm. They moved in around the same time and haven't had a bill in yet.

I work shifts, so come and go at different times.

My mam gave me a delonghi dragon which is good and better than the wall heaters.
