I came position 1 but it’s been two weeks and I still haven’t heard back. How long does it take for them to contact you? My anxiety is through the roof.

Give them a call. Are you certain that you were still No1 at the day of the bids closing? Check your email and your spam folder, is your phone number up to date? I would have expected that they would have contacted you before now if you had been successful. Normally they will contact you with next steps, initial offer, affordability, approximate dates for sign up etc pretty soon. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I am a housing officer and it depends on when the property is ready. More likely it around a couple of weeks. In my LA we only make the call when the flat is ready to move in to. Theres probably void works going on. I do keep saying we should make contact with people so they aren't left wondering but met with deaf ears 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Diversion I gave them a call but very vague with their respond. They said “If you have been successful for an offer via bidding we will contact you.” I really hope they contact me, thank you!

@bows101 I’m assuming because it’s a new build and hopefully they will contact me once it’s ready. I walk past it sometimes and they are still working on the building. But honestly it would be nice to let me know before it’s already to put my mind to rest.

I don't know how bidding works

But if you bid and was no 1 I assume you get an email confirming this so know you are no 1

MikeRafone · 20/10/2024 21:27

if its a new build the council will want you lined up to move in straight away - thus thieveput the property up for bidding before its actually finished. That way they can mitigate any void periods without rent from the property.

Just an update
They changed my status to bid skipped after 5 and a half weeks of waiting. No one contacted me regarding why it was skipped etc. Just need to accept it and move on. Hopefully this can help someone is in a similar situation.

Oh no, what a sad update, I wonder what went wrong.

Lots of luck in the future OP.

Thevelvelletes · 24/11/2024 15:47

Oh no that's a kick in the teeth op.
Hopefully it's not long till you're number one.

eRobin · 25/11/2024 17:23

what does bid skipped mean

ginasevern · 25/11/2024 17:45

What does that mean OP? How can they change your status when you've successfully bid? Anyone here understand what it all means?

Kerrib1987 · 04/10/2025 22:21

you might be better to start your own thread and ask the question

but different councils operate in different ways - so best to ring the housing department at your local council on Monday morning and ask them.

With my local council they shut the books on a Wednesday and usually phone if you have won the bid on a property - but if they don't get through and Thursday you try to bid on another property - it won't let you. Often then the person phones to complain and soon realises they have got a new home

You need to ask them why as they should only have certain reasons to skip you. Challenge them if it doesn't seem fair/in line with the lettings policy.
But if there's some reason for this you need to know what it is so you don't bid on a property that you will be skipped for again.
So times they'll skip if property not right for your needs size/adapted/not adapted.
Sometimes the reasons aren't justified so always ask.
