Wage stagnation

To think that if wages keep stagnating and min wage keeps going up each year most people will soon be on slightly above min wage and it will be the majority?

If you take out the high earners who are in a category of their own then I completely agree with this. I feel it's particularly affecting low to middle earners (not topped up by UC) who may be qualified in their field but for whatever reason haven't progressed up the ranks (parents who took time out of their career to care for their children for example). I think it is going to put these jobs in a very precarious position as you start to weigh up is it worth the extra stress to do a more responsible/demanding position.

Yes I think that's already happening to an extent.

When I first started working there seemed to be lots of rungs on the ladder but there seems lots of low wage jobs now that get closer together. I know my job minimum wage gets closer and closer each year.

I was thinking this the other day! There’s so many jobs now advertised at only just above the minimum wage it’s becoming so normal to earn minimum wage.

I agree. I'm a middle (but sole) earner, or was before the minimum wage increase. I am really struggling with the ever increasing costs to compensate for the increased minimum wage. I need a 2nd job to manage now. What's the point?

Already happening. My husband recently started a skilled experienced role as a graphic designer, £25k. It was all he could get as out of work. He was on more than that 10 years ago, albeit he took a break to be a SAHD.
