Bulk buying

Do you bulk buy and if so what and where from? Do you find it saves you lots of money in the long run? Not sure if it's something I need to think about doing

Buy veg’ and fruit box from ‘Oddbox’ which works out quite good value but not sure it counts as ‘bulk’ buying. I also buy large bags of dried beans rather than tins of beans - better value. As are the really big bags of rice.

I do, from Costco. I have a garage though so space to store things. I get toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing pods, fabric conditioner, dishwasher tabs, rinse aid, washing machine cleaner, shampoo and conditioner, bin bags etc.

I bill buy household products like cleaning stuff, toilet roll, toiletries etc at the beginning of the year in a massive order. It stops me buying useless stuff I don’t need when I’ve popped in for a tube of toothpaste

Nourishinghandcream · 05/08/2024 20:46

Yes.
Was always a bit of a bulk buyer but since I joined Costco some 12yrs or so ago I always buy kitchen towel, loo roll, cleaning products, beans etc in bulk.

Wexone · 05/08/2024 21:06

nope don't have space at mo buy aswell find that I spend more bulk buying and never use it up. as well as that I found I tend to use more as I knew on background had more in house if ran out. so now only buy when close to running out

I do monthly subscribe and save from Amazon, so small scale bulk buying I suppose. I get things like tea, coffee, washing powder, toiletries, oat bars from there. I always check the prices as sometimes Tesco is cheaper.

Seaside3 · 05/08/2024 22:03

Nope. The more of something we have, the faster it disappears. Plus I'm not sure where I store stuff, or if it saves much money.

Seaside3 · 05/08/2024 22:04

I do an online shop weekly and make sure we never run out of basics, toiletries etc included, meaning we don't buy these at the more expensive corner shop.

Nsky62 · 05/08/2024 22:06

I buy my eco cleaning, online in 5 litre containers, cheaper and easier, luckily I have space

FartingAgainstThunder · 05/08/2024 22:09

I've just started buying things from tiktok shop at the start of the month.
60 toilet rolls, 24 kitchen rolls, washing powder that claims to do 150 washes
(so a fortnight's worth then? Or at least that's how it feels in my house)
Washing up liquid and fabric softener in 5ltr containers.

I'm going to try and do the same with other household items and toiletries so that the weekly shop can just be the fresh food we need as per the meal plan.

Hoping this will save us money by not popping to the co-op every other day.

I bulk buy when there is a very good price. But it’s got to be a really good price. Often buy very reduced meat in January and fill the freezer with joints. I looked into Costco, but not really worth it for me. If you have a large ethnic food superstore it can be worth buying the really big bags of rice/spices/lentils/dried chickpeas if you would get through them. And I buy flour in 16kg sacks (we make our own bread) - this is much cheaper and a better quality flour than the little supermarket bags.

I do the exact same thing. I haven't bought washing up liquid since last year, saves a fortune!

Exactly this! I find that doing a big shop or stocking up to be more expensive than just buying as you go along.

Decafflatteplease · 06/08/2024 23:01

We tend to bulk buy certain items. For washing up liquid we like ecover and we buy the 5litre bottles and then decant it into a smaller bottle as it works out cheaper than buying lots of individual bottles and of course less plastic waste so that's good.

Toilet roll we like aldi one so buy 48 at a time so we don't run out and have to buy expensive corner shop type one.

Then not really bulk buying but if something we use regularly is on offer I buy lots to last until the next time it comes on offer so I never pay full price!

We have a utility room to store things in which helps

mydogisthebest · 08/08/2024 20:34

We buy loo roll from Who Gives a Crap. Also buy kitchen paper in bulk from Amazon.

Food wise we buy lentils, chickpeas, different beans and spices in bulk from an asian supermarket.

Surely not for toilet paper?

Or is it if there is an abundance of the soft, quilty stuff, they start to use more than one square at a time with gay abandon?

I was at an event once in France and you bought the toilet paper from a stern looking woman at the entrance. You could consider this as a money saving technique at home, and I have to say it certainly ffocuses ones attention on deailing with the job precisely.

Seaside3 · 08/08/2024 21:03

Yes, they merrily use a whole roll a day. Then the last roll miraculously lasts until the shopping arrives. Saves them having to go for more.
