Commitment interview for universal credit

Hello all! I've just had a message on my journal about a commitment interview I have to attend because my earnings are just below the threshold. Has anyone had this? Really nervous! I don't know what to expect. My son is 16 and is starting college in September.

They'll want you to increase your earnings. Is there a reason you're still working part time when your child is 16?

I work in retail and I'm only contracted to 17.5 hours and for the past couple of months we've had a overtime ban so ive only done my contracted hours. My boss won't give me anymore contracted hours and I rely on overtime.

Go armed talking about the situation, but also about how you are applying for other jobs. If you have a CV already prepared, go on Indeed and send it off in response to adverts that do not require a cover letter. If you prepare this way then you can show you are trying to increase your hours.

I think you need to increase your hours - your son will be 18 soon anyway and all the child related money will end.

To be clear I am not having a go. I do not care if you do not increase your hours. My advice is just the easiest way to get them off your back for a bit.
If your hours do not increase again in the future though, you will have to get another job elsewhere. But lets hope it does not come to that.
