Universal Claim Review for child

Hiya has anyone received a similar message from universal credit?

This is the message they've left me:

"I will be calling you on Monday 1st July at 3pm, this is to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of Universal Credit.

This call will be regarding your child, please make sure you have any evidence you wish to provide to hand.

I will be calling from either a 0800 or withheld number and I will contact you through the telephone number on the claim.

Please make sure that your contact details are all up to date if they have changed, so I am able to speak to you."

What can I expect from them? What documents will I need to provide them with?

Could anyone else (eg other parent if you're not together) be claiming as if your child is always with them? How long have you been receiving UC?

GRoseJS · 22/06/2024 20:13

Hello, thanks for your reply. I am the only person claiming for my child, me and his dad are still together but live separately. My little boy is due to start nursery in September so do you think it has something to do with that?

It seems quite strange. Is the child benefit in your name/ address? Is it a new claim? Has anything changed, like childcare?

CatsLikeBoxes · 22/06/2024 20:22

Sorry I didn't read your last sentence. Yes, maybe it will relate to any childcare costs.

That's all that I can think of, I know people have been getting claim reviews for the their uc claim, but mine specifically states it's for my son and they haven't requested any documents or evidence. The only thing they have said is to have any evidence i wish to provide to hand.

I'm sorry, it probably feels stressful. If it's a phone call, you can always upload anything afterwards, since it's hard to know what you need when you don't know what they want to know/check! Good luck!

There have been reports of UC wanting to revalidate claims for children for reasons associated with the revlorised LHA for private renters. There was a logjam caused by that.

In terms of evidence you'll need to be led by them as to what they want?

Is it his age and you will be asked to move into another work group? I think there's a preparing to get back into work group from a certain age then an expected to work group. You can't claim for any nursery costs back unless you meet the eligibility criteria ie certain number of hours worked or you recieve carers allowance etc (there are more restriction check on gov web) and would need to pay invoices upfront then claim back

It could be, but I am due another baby in 2 weeks time which I have informed them about, so I don't see why they would do that

It's more likely automatic so once you have the new baby it will turn off again once baby is on your claim

LadyLapsang · 02/07/2024 17:50

How long have you and your partner been split up and you claiming as a single parent?
