Hi all

I was just wondering if universal credit can stop payments legally if you have never had any sanctions . Do you have to inform you that they will reduce or stop payments before hand?

Are you still entitled to it? Why have they stopped it?

Sayyo · 07/06/2024 06:06

I reported change of circumstances nearly week ago. I didn't see any messages asking me to do anything for reported

I think your entitlement will depend on what the change of circumstances is ?

Yes, they can and they do, even if you're still entitled to some money from them. Ring them up and ask for an explanation.

Bromptotoo · 07/06/2024 07:26

Have they actually stopped it or are you 'just' worried they might?

If the CoC means you've got too much income or capital it will stop in the Assessment Period in which the change occurs.

If they think there's some irregularity then again they can stop it immediately but you should get an explanation and it's likely you can appeal if it's wrong.

Are you checking you Journal regularly?

You need an appointment because bizarrely changing jobs or even getting a job is a payment blocker

Tax credits used to be happy with a phone call ffs

Is it always the case that a new job blocks payment?

I'd expect that a claimant would advise as a CoC via the journal and that possibly there would be some follow up. Changing between bog standard PAYE employments or a second job for extra hours is so common place and exactly the behaviour UC intends to foster that it's barking to penalise it.

Moving to self employment might be more involved though.

It seems to be the most complained about thing online "I've just got a job and uc are demanding I leave it to see them"

I reported a change in savings. I got no updates but didn't get paid, my statement didn't get generated and I had no notes on journal. I tried leaving notes on journal for help but nobody replied.

I had to ring up and speak to somebody and was then given a case manager and had to go to a face to face appointment and provide evidence.

Communications appear shocking!
