Hair salons

Wash, restyle and full head highlights £220 in the very outskirts of London. I'm very happy with the result but the cost was a bit of a shock. Coupled with a tip for the stylist and the junior the total was £250. I know I didn't have to tip but I always tip for services. I normally get my hair done in my home country and it's significantly cheaper.
May I ask how much you pay on average for similar?

These threads never go well as you get the extremes of people that actually cut and their colour their hair themselves so there is no cost to someone who goes to Charles Worthington and pays £500!

I don’t colour my hair but I have friends and colleagues that do and quite honestly it shows. If it was exactly the same as a salon then hairdressers wouldn’t exist for colouring. I think it’s like the people who claim not to iron and cannot be bothered.

I really admire the non-ironers when they post on here, but then I look at my un-ironed clothes and think Yeah, I'll iron them 😄.

Tracker1234 · 07/07/2024 09:22

I am not a massive ironer however I often see people who look scruffy, hair with a big dent because they have slept on it and not bothered to fix it. People who look like they have slept in their clothes or who smell because they don’t shower every day.

I know I have my tin hat ready but come on a bit of time spent on yourself is always available. Yes, there are children, full time working, elderly parents, etc. I have had all of those. Yes, there are people who don’t have 30p or have access to hot water but realistically what % of people is that?

Wash and trim £40 in SE London..I colour my own hair now. I tip 10%.

Me too. I can't believe how much time I think about this during my appointment too 😅

I'm the same when I get into a Taxi.

Glad it's not just me. Is hairdresser anxiety a real thing?
I also sit there worrying about it, I can't afford to tip and my cut and finish has just jumped up £8.00 to £54.
I try and see what other people do at the till and if they all tip. I just find it all so awkward and wish I didn't have to go to hairdressers but I do like the way she cuts it.

I've been going to the same hairdresser for over 40 years. £56 for a colour, cut and blow dry. West Yorkshire.

Depends on how you wear your hair no? I don't do highlights and balayage and all that. I just cover up my roots at home. I have jet black Asian hair so it's a simpler colour job than some.

I do iron and shower daily! 😉

LaWench · 07/07/2024 09:41

My hair is balayage usually but have the highlights put in 2x a year. Small salon in NW, I go every 3 weeks so I get a small discount, she does £35 for roots and blow dry. This includes a conditioning treatment.

When I get the full works 2x a year, foils highlights, root colour on the rest, cut and blow it's £75.

Noosnom · 07/07/2024 09:43

My hairdresser does a wash and basic cut for £34. I tip the girl £2 as she's really nice and we talk about running.

snowynight · 07/07/2024 09:46

I paid £220 for cut, blow dry and t section highlights last time I went. It's eye watering but worth it IMO. Your hair is always with you so I prioritise the cost in my budget, and stretch the time between visits as much as I can - usually 10 weeks.

I don't tip the stylist because he's the salon owner but will tip the junior £5 if I have some cash with me. Very often I don't and feel terribly guilty!

SerenaWaldorf · 07/07/2024 09:48

I'm in the midlands. I pay £70 for a full head of highlights, trim and blow dry. I'd never think of tipping.

Snackpocket · 07/07/2024 09:54

My hairdresser comes to the house. £90 for a half head of highlights, cut and blow dry. I'm in Kent and most salons are double that. I don't tip as I have to wash my own hair.

gingercat02 · 07/07/2024 09:56

I never tip. My stylist and her husband own the salon and are considerably better off than me. They are good people and pay their staff well, so I don't tip the junior either. I do give a bottle of fizz and some biscuits or chocs at Christmas.
I have never coloured my hair, so I can't comment, but a cut and style costs £47

Vinorosso74 · 07/07/2024 11:47

Also London, I paid just over £200 for highlights, cut and blow dry in April.
I dread to think the overheads of running a hair salon! It is bloody expensive though.

KnickerlessParsons · 07/07/2024 12:33

£53. Lady comes to the house.
