Re. spaghetti hoops can be microwaved, pasta takes ten mins to cook on hob, needing a pan and the cost of electricity.

You can microwave pasta. Stick it in a bowl cover with water, pinch of salt, cover bowl and microwave. 4-5 minutes, stir and pop it back in for two minutes. Should be getting on for al dente but just pop it back in for another minute or two if you want it softer.

My go tos for cheap meals

Dal and rice

Basmati rice (all supermarkets have own brand, I shop at Lidl but buy whole grain basmati in 4kg bags that last several months)
Red lentils (£1.29 for 500g)
Creamed coconut 4 sachets (Lidl does not sell, I bought is Asda along with rice months ago)
Curry powder medium
Garlic (fresh is best but use dried or frozen if needed)
Ginger again fresh is best
Chill chopped finely or dried is ok
Onion sliced
Coriander (chop up and freeze leftovers for future use)

First time this costs more but it's a warming tasty meal

To cook
Cook 75g of rice per person with twice as much water
In a pan fry the onion, add the chili, fresh spices and dried, add 400ml boiling water, a stock cube and 50g creamed coconut (1 sachet) stir to melt then add the lentils and bring to the boil, simmer until soft add the coriander if using (dried curry leaves also add a good flavour).

You can add green beans, okra, peppers or whatever really, use up your fridge. I serve with lightly pickled aubergine or roasted cauliflower with cumin. I worked out the cost at 78p each earlier in the year without the extra veg
