I'm sure this has been posted before, but eight months year ago I set up a Plum account and basically sort of forgot about it, bar every now and again clicking to allow it to continue to be connected with my HSBC account. It rounds up when I have paid, .99 for something, and puts the rest into my Plum account. Anyway, I have a day off so I am doing a bit of admin and went in to check, and it has £1800 in it. I am honestly amazed - it's money I didn't realise I was 'losing' but so happy to now have!

Anyway, please delete if this isn't allowed, but you can join here and I think you (and - full disclosure - I too) get some reward! https://friends.withplum.com/r/jDaaD5

But even if you don't use the link, do join up - I am encouraging everyone to do it!

Have you tried Plum? It saves money automatically, so you don't notice how quickly it adds up - and it's free to sign-up.

My bank account (Lloyds) has that facility. It is surprising how much it adds up.

But if you didn't use Plum, the money would still be in your current account so unless the interest rate is hugely more, it just sounds like an annoying gimmick tbh.

But it might get spent on something else.
This is just a clever way of saving that you don't really notice.
All those pennies add up it seems

There are other ways to do this which also work- eg a direct debit to cover council tax or similar that you just round up- ie salary account pays council tax account, council tax goes out but there is always a bit left. This enables you to have multiple current accounts on the go, some having rewards/ interest

paddingtoncoffee · 17/05/2024 18:58

It all requires you to forget about it for a while of course!

Yes I think it is good. Save around £300 in the last few months without noticing and you can set the rate on how keen you want it to be collecting money. Someone said above how it is the sam as being in your bank but it's not I don't think because it can get sent with all the tapping of your card whereas this is locked away

EmpressaurusOfCats · 17/05/2024 19:19

My Starling account does that - rounds up the change from my shopping & puts it away. Last time I looked there was £100 in there, which was just right for the flights I wanted to book.

I suppose it's like the modern version of a penny jar. It just saves your loose change.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 17/05/2024 21:02

Yes, without you even noticing!

I love my Plum account
