I apologise if this has been mentioned in another thread, but I have just discovered the Too Good To Go app. We've picked up a nice little bag of shopping for £2.

Been around 2 or 3 years.
Hit and miss.
I've tried 2 x Wenzels and 1 x Gregg's on there. One Wenzels bag was good, the other so-so. Greggs so-so.
What did you get in yours and which shop?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/04/2024 21:23

I like the Greggs ones but I tried Asda and it was awful. Starbucks was fine once and crap the rest.

Very hit and miss.

pelotonaddiction · 27/04/2024 21:30

I often get the stonehouse carvery ones - either breakfast or carvery depending on time

SuperLois34 · 27/04/2024 21:34

The Morrisons ones are outstanding ime. £3.09, they go like lightening when released, it's fastest finger first.

I've had quite a few in the past and have had £30-£40 of fruit easily, several times - often berries, tubs and tubs of raspberries and blueberries which are perfectly fresh but have a shorter shelf life so they need rid.

Aldi too good to go bags are amazing!

onwardandupwards · 27/04/2024 21:58

We've had a few Toby carvery ones and they've been good, with the exception of once where we got 4 tubs of cooked carrots!

WhamBamThankU · 27/04/2024 22:05

My friend gets the Asda sushi counter ones and 9/10 the guy serving just picks things off the counter for her! Must try it some time

AdoraBell · 27/04/2024 22:25

My DD has used it.

likepebblesonabeach · 27/04/2024 22:32

The Krispy Kreme ones are really good.

grafittiartist · 27/04/2024 22:36

Coopland bakers are really good bags.
Lots of things that can freeze which is useful.

BrieHugger · 27/04/2024 22:39

We had a local restaurant and a cafe that took part when it first started. Got some amazing bargains from them, but now it’s mainly Starbucks and supermarkets and nothing really tempts me enough.

lovemycbf · 27/04/2024 22:43

Around here Morrisons are crap loads of stale /opened rolls and mouldy fruit
Greggs are great and I used to be able to pick up one whenever but I literally haven't managed to get one for months as they go so quickly

familyissues12345 · 27/04/2024 22:46

My son loves the Sushi ones from Sainsbury’s, they are great value - £5 for £15 worth of sushi

Greggs are great, and now you can send the order to a friend for them to collect I now occasionally send DS1 an order to collect from the greggs next to his Uni campus! He loves the sandwich bags

Costa are also really good. We haven't tried a supermarket one, I follow the TGTG Facebook page and the supermarket ones can be very hit and Miss. At least somewhere like with greggs you kind of know what you're going to get!

clary · 27/04/2024 23:24

I've been using the app for a while but it's a bt hit and miss and worse lately.

Last couple of Costa bags have been a bit rubbish (and I am a big Costa fan) - one I got four pastries for £3.50, another I got two sandwiches. In the past I have had four packs of sandwiches and two or three muffins.

Had an amazing Aldi bag the other day tho - moules marniere, pack of free-range chicken thighs, half a dozen eggs, loaf of bread, pack of crumpets, salad bowl, cheese and onion sandwich filler and a box of raspberries for £3.50-ish. Brilliant! They don't come up often tho. But the timing is handy as I am often dropping DS1 at his nightshift very nearby.

edited to add: btw if you are really unhappy with your TGTG bag (eg lots of mouldy food or all the same) you can contact them and they will give you a voucher for your next bag if they agree it was bad value.

Aldi too good to go bags are amazing!

We had an Aldi one which was rubbish, just a load of different wilted lettuce and lemons.

Also the Greggs one was not very good either.

I think it depends on your area and whether the workers get to take the best bits first.

pleasestoprainingplease · 27/04/2024 23:37

Oh I'm envious of the good bags. We got one from Morrisons once. Never again. 2 mouldy quiche & 6 battered peppers. A can suet that was one day from going out of date. We did still use that in fairness in the week but that's the 3rd mouldy quiche I've had from Morrisons as picked one up from there before a few months before this good to go bag just with a normal shop & it was mouldy. Confused

Nomorecoconutboosts · 27/04/2024 23:39

I think they vary widely depending on locality and other factors.
round here (Midlands) Aldi were not good.
best ones M&S never had a bad one and had some excellent ones.

Misthios · 27/04/2024 23:43

Not as good as it was. We have been using it for a few years, we have a couple of M&S shops in BP stations near us and when it started first my bag would regularly have meat like chicken portions or salmon steaks in it, pots of fresh fruit, the occasional sandwich. The last couple have been just sandwiches. Did have one from Costa recently which was good - 1 halloumi sandwich, a muffin, a chocolate pasty twist thing and 2 x pork and apple sausage rolls.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/04/2024 00:04

I love this app

Find cost cutters /corner shops quite good

Never managed to grab an Aldi or local farm shop one yet

Don't like the coffee shop ones are mainly cakes /sarnies

Nomorecoconutboosts · 28/04/2024 00:22

I think it also depends on your circumstances. I and one of my dds love to get an M&S one and eat the contents for dinner that day and/or lunch the next day. (Technically some of it is 12 hours out of date by midday the next day)
However we have no allergies and will eat most things - on some days it’s a bit of an adventure trying new stuff or odd combinations - and it saves me choosing what to buy and cook for dinner.

Jennaveeve · 28/04/2024 08:18

Tried it yesterday for the first time with Greggs. Wouldn’t bother again. 2 sandwiches, one just a child’s plain cheese and stale. A gingerbread man and a cheese and onion puff.

Waitwhat23 · 28/04/2024 10:35

The best we've had -

Baynes (Scottish Baker) - the bags sell out almost immediately.

Asda. They have handed me bags I could hardly lift. Multiple packets of sliced meat or potato products.

Aldi. Best haul was two massive packs of sliced sausage which went into the freezer.

Waitrose (which we can't normally really afford to shop at!) - nice curries, yoghurts, desserts etc.

Morrisons was good but has now become a bit hit or miss. There's usually a packet of spring greens (or similar) which I'd struggle to use before it really went off and always packets of coriander, which I don't like.

Was disappointed with Costa. Couple of nice sandwiches but then some very stale crossiants.

Misthios · 28/04/2024 10:38

A student son of a friend is a big fan of the "hotel breakfast buffet" bags which are basically a takeaway box which you fill with the leftover cooked items at the end of service - fried/scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, mushrooms, that sort of thing. Can't really be frozen and has to be eaten right away, but apparently very good value for money.

minipie · 28/04/2024 10:39

Olio app is worth a look too

Do they do food also, how is it compared to TGTG?
