Universal credit and earnings

we have started claiming universal credit and are waiting for our first statement.

my partner was paid at the end of last month but it was significantly less than normal as a lot of it was a training wage.

am I right thinking they will look at how much he was actually paid rather than hourly rate? When we did our claim and it asked for his hourly rate/hours worked per week I put in what he is working now (after training) but last months income was mostly training so is a lot lower?

will universal credit reflect this or does it just take the hourly rate and hours you input xxx

UC gets the figures for earnings from HMRC so as long as his employer reports his earnings correctly then you should have your UC calculated on actual earnings.

As it is your first payment check the statement carefully.

If you are unsure about the amounts you can get help from the Citizens Advice service Help to Claim. They will advise if anything doesn't look right.

They get the pay from HMRC each month so it will go on what was earned last month. If he will be getting more going forward just be aware the payment you get this month will be higher than what you'd normally get x

UC gets the figures monthly from HMRC. As long as the value isn’t less than a certain amount it won’t trigger a visit to the job centre. Eg 35 hours x nmw is gross £1735 a month but the amount they consider for deductions is your net amount after tax, NI and pension contributions.
