Universal credit and shared ownership

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this.

When moving from a privately rented property to a shared ownership property, what information/proof do you need to provide UC with for the change of circumstances?

Im guessing it would be tenancy and mortgage agreement and bank statements for proof of deposit?

Also, does moving into a different local authority change anything with regards to UC?

Thanks!

As your UC will include a Housing Cost Element towards the rent part they'll need to be able to verify that. If they cannot do it via the landlord portal - sometimes they can for social landlords - the tenancy agreement should be OK.

I don't think the LA matters but might you be allocated to a different Job Centre in so far as any meetings etc are concerned?

Ooh I don’t know that was a thing! I just checked and ours is listed on there, so they should be able to just confirm the rent with them?

Do UC not need copies of the mortgage deed or bank statements to show proof of your mortgage deposit?

Ah, yes that would make sense! Xx

Normally, like if you're on a new claim by phone (yes I know they're not normal),
the agent will look the rent up on the LL portal and, so far as I could tell, that was all that was needed.

Is there an issue with your deposit and savings? If reduction in capital affects how much you get, ie tariff income is reduced/eliminated then I suppose they might need proof.

That’s good to know :)

No, not as far as I am aware anyway! I just thought I’d get ahead of things before we move and have any documentation needed all together for when I report the change. We’re drowning in paperwork currently (who knew you’d need to fill in sooo many forms!!) so trying to be proactive, but I may not need to be after all! Xx

Hi did you have to show proof of deposit etc? I’m currently in the process of purchasing a Shared ownership property and the housing association are asking for 2 months rent in advance will UC pay that? I currently claim UC but not housing element
