How much do you spend on gas and electric per day?

I've just switched energy supplier as I ended up in debt to my supplier for around £300. I know this is expected after the winter months but I was in credit nearly £1000 around August time. It showed we used nearly £800 in gas for the quarter.

I have started using my smart display again to see where we are using up a lot of energy. Yesterday we used around £8 of gas and electricity and today I've turned the heating off/down and it's around £4.

Is this average? I've no idea!

For reference- 3 bed semi, 2 adults, one child. Someone is at home pretty much all the time.

5 bedroom house, 2 adults, 3 kids.

£6 ish per day without heating, £13/4 with. Refuse to tot that up over a month!

I honestly don't know how we are using/used so much gas!

I only have gas for my heating and I set it to 19 degrees so not really hot I don't think. The house definitely has a chill if it goes below. Stuck between a rock and a hard place

WFH and spend about £4 on electricity a day. Heating the hot water for 45 minutes costs about 70p and the heating costs about £1 an hour at 16.5 degrees for a 4-bed 3-reception house.

We only have gas for heating, 3 bed detached and quite a cold house. Set for 16 but I do turn it up to 18 for 2-3 hours each evening and ours is about £6 a day plus electric on top( approx £4 a day). I don't yours is too bad if you've got it on 19.

Winter it was 4:50 for both give or take.

Think £8/day sounds ok for an average house using heating.

We only heat to 17 ish we spend £7/8 duel on very cold winter days. Anything between £3-5 right now. Heating is not constantly on! Washing 3/4 times a week.

Just two of us. One wfh. Low electric users. 3 bed semi that’s never very warm whatever we do, but neither of us like the dry air from constant heating

For Dec, Jan, Feb & Mar our total G&E bill is around £120/pm so is averaging out pretty well. Based on actual readings, we do have a SM but OH reads the meters as they are so easy to get to.
4-Bed det with three of us this month (normally just two), heating, washing, tumble etc on as & when required.

Have to admit that after reading on here of some of the bills people seem to be running up, ours are quite manageable.

Haven't got a smart meter, so don't know precise daily usage. We were paying £137pm dd, but supplier has suggested we pay £101pm, but I think we've had a mild winter. From this looks like we use £3.75-4.70 a day. Obviously our winter usage is higher than our summer usage. Our heating is set to 18c, we rarely have on in the day, shower runs off boiler, gas hob, converted four bed bungalow.

Around £5 on each a day (gas will be less on warmer days). We have exotic pets and a big pond that all use electric. We keep most lights off during the day and only have one tv in the house. It still seems a lot of money to me.

£4-5 a day at the moment.
Everyone received an Oodie at Christmas and the heating went off during the mild spell in early February. It has been on for 4 hours on one occasion since.
Most power goes on cooking and electronics (I wfh 3 days a week). Adult DC work different hours so there's almost always someone at home. We're currently in credit so will drop the payments as we approach the summer. No small children or elderly here, just the 4 adults.

I think using the display will make us more aware of what is wracking up the bills and I've set my heating back to times rather than just clicking on when it dropped below a certain temp.

I'm feeling the chill in the house but I suppose that is what layers are for.

Hi op, we’re with Utilita. I spoke to them this week so I know they exactly how much we use. Approx £6 per day electricity and £2.50 gas. 3 bedroom semi approx 30 years old, 3 adults ( including 21 yr old ds ) and then 13yr old dd. Someone is always home and someone is always awake due to shifts etc. I do use the washing machine and the dryer a lot. Looking forward to hanging out the washing soon.

In March it was £8 per day for gas and electric. 2 adults, DH WFH so always here, 3 kids, 5 bed semi. Lots of devices, daily baths and showers, lots of washing and tumble drying of uniforms (can't wait to get the washing on the line!!). We have a fairly old inefficient boiler so I don't think that helps with costs.

When it's really cold and we're home a lot so it £8/9 a day.

Over the last 3 months £10 a day.

4 bed detached house, 2 adults 3 kids. We've averaged about £7 a day for the past two months.

And we're high users - gaming teens, wfh, house is always warm and we don't skimp on turning the heating on.

Can you not insulate your home better so that it retains heat? I can't be comfy in less than 22 degrees so really can't visualise living in 16.5

There's just me and adult DS here mostly, but we are in a 4 bed with high ceilings and old single glazed sash windows, so not an energy efficient home! We both wfh so there's always at least one of us here and always using laptops/computers.

We average £3.50 a day on electricity. We have the heating on when we're cold. I'd say in the coldest weeks it was about £4 a day, that was having it on for several hours. Currently, heating on maybe an hour here and there, costs us I'd say £1 a day, maybe less. In the summer months I pay little more than the standing charge on gas. The only gas we use then is if I have a bath! (We have an electric shower).

I'm on old PAYG (non smart) meters. It suits me. I'm not convinced I'd get it much cheaper by making any changes to the meters or payment method.

Ours is set at 16. It isn’t remotely uncomfortable. If it was we would turn it up.

Who is your energy supplier? Do you know your estimated kW yearly usage for gas and electricity? Your family configuration and house sound similar in size to mine. But we don't have a smart meter. We send in monthly actual reading on the same date every month. My bill was £99 for both, paid in 12 equal instalments, but will go down to £67 when I can swap in 2 months. I'm a very conscientious user though. I use around 1700 kW for electricity and 4500 kW for gas.

£13-20+ per day. It's often at £8 already by 8am. Only 2 adults. Hardly home and nothing on all day bar fridge, freezers and pond. I swear there's something wrong somewhere but utility company not interested.

That seems very high. Are you somewhere very cold and with little to no home insulation?

Nope, SE. Modern insulation. Heating on max 4-5 hrs/24 in severe cold weather. Usually no more than 3, though. Would rather put on an extra jumper.
Heating set to 17°C, and house rarely drops below that, so it's turned on manually for an hour boost before bed. Nest system on each floor.

I do max of 3 loads of washing per week, so nothing excessive.
We moved here a few years ago and despite not changing our habits our usage has almost quadrupled.

We expected it to go up a bit as this house is bigger, but not 4x more. We don't have any more electrical stuff than we did before, we just replaced old for new.

Most of these sound expensive to me.

I spend around £1.80 a day on electric, not sure on exactly how much gas as that's not on the smart meter. That said my monthly bill is around £80 for both so it must be around £1.50 a day for gas.

I live in a new build, well insulated, rarely need heating on for more than 15 mins for the house to warm up.

I'm with octopus energy and think they're pretty good.
