Cheapest way to dry laundry

I live in a flat so NO outdoor space whatsoever.

Heating is storage heaters which are not great and super expensive and my electric bills are HUGE.

Already own a good quality dehumidifier but without the heating on still takes a while to dry things (small room with door closed)

Have heard mixed reviews re heated airers and would still need dehumidifier I presume? What would the cost of that be?!

Would you just give up and buy a tumble dryer? I had one previously and it cost around £1.50 per cycle (I think) but I did end up shrinking a few things but I did put everything on extra dry!.
Think this may potentially still be the cheapest option though even though people seem to say tumble dryers are the devil! (Must admit I do also worry about the fire risk).

Have tackled my problem with overspending on food shopping - next is my extortionate electric bills!.

What would you suggest?!.

Get the tumble dryer and be done.

So I was all set to order a heat pump dryer and decided to check my clothes last night - I’d say about 95% say not to tumble dry! I’m not sure I even looked previously and just shoved everything in the dryer, maybe that’s the reason everything was shrinking and getting holes in!🫣.

That’s where my heat pump has been a godsend. It has so many gentle programmes, I’ve genuinely put EVERYTHING in, no matter what the labels say, and nothing has been damaged…traditional tumble drying does wreck clothes…manufacturers co er themselves by saying to either dry clean or not to tumble dry

Honestly over the years in rented accommodation I’ve faffed around so much with heated airers/dehumidifiers etc, and I’ve since realised that if you’re sensible it’s just as cheap, and much easier, to just use a tumble dryer. Heat pump if possible.

I tumble dry almost everything in my heat pump dryer and have never shrunk anything or got holes in them.

This is the one I have although it’s probably been superseded now, ut it’ll give you an idea

Ok so looks like it was just the normal condensor I had. After nearly tripping over the airer in the bathroom I will be glad to have a tumble dryer back!

Do you think anywhere is likely to have any sales over Easter?.

I have a freestanding airer, I pop on the landing and open the landing window, the bedroom door and window to create a draft right through where the airer is positioned.

I spin clothes on 1200 rpm and spin again at end of wash, shake and lye out carefully so air can reach all round.

use pegs for knickers and socks

clithing drys quickly, mostly within 24-36 hours

also as soon as any clothing is dry, remove so the rest has better air flow

we decided, early November, to give our excellent tumble dryer to daughter who had moved house, realising that our (all) elec bills were expensive
So for the four wettest /dampest months known to man, we had bedding draped on the airer in the hallway, clothes on hangers, on the shower rail, radiator in hall on constantly, dehumidifier on overnight in hallway so had to have doors closed, rain rain rain, snapped, ordered tumble dryer from AO, came next day, jolly drivers removed packaging, took it away, up and running, double spun bedding, 40 mins, back on the bed, just do it.
