Car insurance renewal

So my renewal came through this week. It's gone up from £110 a month to £209 😬 I made a claim last year that is still not resolved so that's probably not helped. Had a look elsewhere on comparison sites and it's coming in at the same or more. I found one for £170 a month but the deposits over £500 which I don't have. Spoke to my insurance to see if I could get the price down and they couldn't help but did say that there's an increase on most peoples insurance 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyone else here had high renewal recently?

Yes, DP's autorenewal was about to triple next month. At least he caught in time, but the cheapest he could find was double. And that's on an old, only just ulez compliant fiesta, so not a glamour car.

Dostadning · 16/02/2024 17:19

Mine's gone up £500 after a door ding and a pending/unlikely to be claimed
Nothing I can do apart from suck it up. It was always going up by £250 across the board according to quotes given without those claims

Tweezeme1 · 16/02/2024 22:45

Yes same, no claims. However my renewal doubled. Shopped about but was cheapest I could get

That won't stop it going up massively at renewal, huge increases are an issue for everyone regardless of what your actual premium is

There was a discussion about this at my work recently and anecdotally no one is as able to find cheaper quotes that thier renewal one and that was certainly the case for me. I tried two leading comparison sites and nowhere was cheaper

It's a big problem currently

Everyone's is going up. They've said as much in the news etc. my renewal quote went up £200 ish a year from £450 ish to £6something. I managed to get it done by removing all my extras and reducing the miles right down as we don't really use it anymore.

I find as an older person, it doesn't really matter what car you have just what you want covering.

FabFebHalfTerm · 17/02/2024 01:27

Yeah mine went from £490 to £675. One claim, fully resolved, guy that hit me owned up straight away & his insurance paid mine straight away. So, no fault on mine & over 20 years no claims, they dropped it to £635.

Ford Focus 65 plate.

Couldn't find much significantly cheaper so ended up renewing.

haggisandcoos · 17/02/2024 01:28

Mine just went from £392 to £620 but I managed to get it down to £540 by increasing my excess. Unfortunately my car is on the list of top ten most stolen cars in the UK. My friend's Tesla only increased by £20. Noone wants to steal an electric car apparently.

bingoringo4 · 17/02/2024 10:06

I drive a 14 plate Hyundai so nothing special. im sick of everything just going up and up it's ridiculous.

It’s a problem across the board
surely some people just can’t afford to buy it anymore, so I wonder if people are having to give up their cars or are just driving around uninsured.

DelurkingAJ · 17/02/2024 10:17

The reason it’s gone up so much (probably) is two fold. One the claim, given the insurers won’t yet know how much they’ll end up paying out they’ll be cautious (imagine if someone came forward tomorrow saying they’d suddenly got back problems as a result of the incident). Second is that insurers didn’t price in the insane levels of inflation (which is unsurprising given they’d have to know about it a year or more in advance because if you make a claim at the back end of your annual policy it’s all going to be paid for more than a year after you paid for the policy) so are playing catch up with two years’ worth of the cost of claims (which have gone up significantly more than headline inflation).

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/02/2024 10:18

Yep mine too.
2010 Peugeot 105, nothing has changed and it's increased in price.

I have seen a few threads here saying the same.

And some saying almost impossible to insure their kids.

arejcenencehche3uh9f3 · 17/02/2024 10:39

My renewal quote was 360 (up from 230) but I got several quotes at 255 from comparison sites (and in fact the majority of the quotes were under 360) and my insurer agreed to match it. Still an almost 11% rise, but not too bad. I can only conclude that my insurer initially took the piss on the offchance that I wouldn't shop around.

Boomer55 · 17/02/2024 16:51

All insurances are rocketing up. My home insurance (never a claim) has shot up.🙁

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/02/2024 22:22

Most of my friends went high but weirdly mine didn't. It was £3 more then last year

I obviously renewed at £369 a year

Was with last years company

But other quotes via online sites were £500 +
