After January was the most skint I've ever been in my life, it's kickstarted me to be better with money and save. I'm a rubbish saver so I've bought these challenges to help me. I'm also going to be using cash instead of cards, so when I'm paid on the 23rd I will leave in my bank all the money for direct debits and a buffer for online payments. I will then take the rest out in cash divide it into 4 to use each week and what's left at the end of the week I will put into my challenges.
My goals are to save for Xmas and a holiday next January and have an emergency fund.

While I'm waiting to be paid I've sorted all my little change pots from around the house and bagged up £37 ready to take to the post office. I've also made a start on my penny saver from the change that was left and bits I keep finding around the house.

Im also having a massive clear out and listing on vinted and fb. We are a family of 6 so as you can imagine we accumulate a lot of "stuff" which is something im also working on this year.

I can't wait to see how well I do at the end of the year! Im actually buzzing 🤞🏼

@bingoringo4 well done - spare money is still spare money! And next week does sound really promising, plus I don’t know where you are in the country but the temperature is set to be about 16/17 here fore a few days. Did you solar panels get fixed? I mean we would also need some sun.. but hopefully soon!!!

Solar panels are being fixed next Friday so that's good news. The weather here today is 18 and tomorrow is 20 🎉
After what feels like the longest winter ever I can not wait for some decent weather. I need to sort my washing line out, it was taken out last year because I had a new patio put down and i need to find a suitable place for it to go where the dogs can't pull my washing off 🤦🏻‍♀️

Week 8 update.

£18.96 this week so not too bad. The vouchers have really helped this week, the kids are empty pits that can't be filled. Solar panels being fixed tomorrow, and I've got a date for new doors and windows to be fitted on 1st may. I've also received a letter this week to say im getting a new roof too this year, im hoping this will all help in winter and my fuel use will be less costly 🙌🏼

Wow @bingoringo4 that’s awesome about the upgrades, really hope it makes a noticeable difference to you. And £18.96 is a decent amount for a week’s savings. Do you have an ongoing tiral? How are your charts going?

Hollyhead · 19/04/2024 07:34

How did this week go @bingoringo4 ? We had an expensive week as I had to fill up our heating oil tank 😱

bingoringo4 · 20/04/2024 15:12

Week 9 update.

£22.61 saved this week which is a win for me.

And I've managed to fill my first challenge 👍🏼 the penny saving challenge is doing well too I've attached a pic 😊

@Hollyhead sorry I thought I'd replied to you. I've had a really bad mental health week and not been myself at all. But saying that I've managed to get a lot of admin done this week and chase alot of things. One being my accident claim, my accident was may last year and I'm being sent for a medical next month 🤦🏻‍♀️ you couldn't make it up. If anyone has an accident don't ever go with Ageas they are a joke!

Payday on Tuesday can't come quick enough.

Oh no need to apologise BingoRingo, sorry you’ve had a hard week. Although it sounds like you e managed to be super productive despite that. £22 is awesome, well done, and it must feel great to have a card filled 😁 well done, and hope you feel better soon 💐

Well done @bingoringo4

My bank offers ‘Save the Change’. It rounds up spending by debit card to the nearest £ and puts it in a savings account. Example: I spend £3.49, 51p is transferred into savings. I’ve saved a fair bit and never missed it.

I'm not sure what income everyone here is dealing with but have you seen the Help to Save accounts?

www.gov.uk/get-help-savings-low-income

I started mine nearly two years ago when I had very little coming in and I'm due my first 'bonus' soon. You keep the account for the full term regardless of how much you earn, once you're in you're in. If you work it out as an interest rate it's a lot better return than many options.

I opened one of these 2yrs ago

Saved the £50 a month so £600 a year and then got £600 bonus few months back which paid a chunk off my credit card

At the end of another 2years I will get another £600 bonus and will be finished

Meanwhile as I haven't touched it mean should have 2400 in it which I may put into pb or half pb and half pay a bit of my loan off
