How much does raising a baby cost?

I know there is no set figure but I would like to try and get an idea of how much our baby due in August might cost us per month. We are house hunting at the moment and don’t want to over commit to too high a mortgage and be pushed to afford essentials.

I’d like to try breast feeding but I’d be interested to know how much people pay per month for formula, nappies, wipes, clothes, baby classes, food once baby is 6 months old and any other associated costs that I haven’t considered.

Thanks!

Babies are actually very cheap. I found having a newborn and toddler so much cheaper than having school aged kids. Their needs are so limited and everything you need you can get secondhand.

Formula is expensive but it does vary which brand and where you buy it. Nappies are cheap if you go for own brand, pampers are expensive. I found child benefit definitely covered those sort of expenses anyway. Clothes are cheap if you buy second hand (Vinted) or supermarket clothes. Toys from charity shop but again supermarkets always have offers. Classs can be expensive but not necessary at all until they move, then you might want to go to keep them occupied. They can range from expensive Baby sensory to free church playgroups. You can spend very little if you want - I found the boredom of the early days expensive because I just wanted to be out the house so spent lots on coffee and cake!! But not at all baby related 😆
