4 bed, £229 for the year, including expensive jewellery, stayed same price at renewal.

Insurance is very location dependent

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 14/12/2023 18:13

We’ve just paid £700 for a 4 bed semi-detached.

Howeffinmuch · 14/12/2023 19:43

thanks for the replies everyone

blimey….some of the premiums folk are having to pay!! Interesting for comparison but worrying at same time that ours could sky rocket to four figures like some….and here’s me moaning and groaning.

appreciate the ideas as to why it’s gone up, honestly hadn’t thought about the impact flooding/big pay outs nationally would mean for us all. It makes sense, but again worrying how more extreme weather will then hike premiums up….

sorry for the doom and gloom post. The replies have helped lessen the burn I was feeling yesterday. Thank you all

Just renewed and it almost doubled this year. No claims made.

ISeeTheLight · 14/12/2023 19:50

Just under £800. Large 8 bed victorian detached house. With several high trees very close to the house (under TPO so can't get rid of them). With Halifax. Estimated rebuild cost is a lot more than the house is worth (north east).
All other insurers either wouldn't insure as too big etc or were in the region of £4-5k+.

I reckon your listed status will play a big part in your insurance figure.

VisionsOfSplendour · 14/12/2023 20:08

I'm not clear, have you used all the comparison sites? What other people pay has got nothing to do with your premium, the only valid thing to look at is what other insurers would charge you

By far the biggest culprit this year is the cost of building materials for insurance rebuild purposes. In May I did two online quotes:

465k stone building, 130+ years old. Insurance estimated 1.1 million rebuild cost.

So, out of curiosity, I got a quote for our rental house.

Value approx 600k if you sold it. 11 years old, brick. Insurance rebuild quotes came in at circa 380k.

Materials, lots of claims this year, inflation and their increasing fear of weather - it's been the perfect storm for horrible premiums.

4 bedroom semi detached £234 contents and buildings 😁

Rainbowshit · 16/12/2023 06:09

The price we laid last year and our new quote are almost exactly the same as yours OP. Detached Victorian sandstone house with 5 beds.

Ilovegoldies · 16/12/2023 06:16
  1. 3 bed terrace. I am in a flood risk area though.
HollyBerryCrumble · 16/12/2023 06:37

Ours is insane but I couldn’t shop around at renewal as we were in the middle of a claim (which cost the insurer £26k to fix). So we currently pay £240 per month!!! 5 bed detached house. However, now the claim has finally been closed I will be shopping around and hopefully get something more reasonable!

inshockwillicope · 16/12/2023 06:40

5 bed 1930s detached in east midlands - no expensive contents covered

paid 207 last year and renewal just came through for 260

I quite shocked by some of these quotes!

eurochick · 16/12/2023 06:50

Just got a renewal quote for £1200. Need to shop around as that is up around £400 from last year. But we were burgled 4 years ago and they were really good so we have been reluctant to change.

5 bed 150 year old house in the south east.

Validus · 16/12/2023 06:51

£520 for a 5 bed. Have never claimed.

shop around - my insurer last year also tried to double the price to £800+. Other insurers were more reasonable.

caringcarer · 16/12/2023 07:07

I have a 6 bed detached and paid £445 but had 8 years no claims.

Sallysoup · 16/12/2023 07:14

5 bed, within 100m of a river, £480 per year.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/12/2023 19:06

I pay £100 a year for buildings only on a 3 bed Victorian Terrace...no contents of any value so willing to take the risk on that.
