How much to ask for child maintenance

So we have agreed on divorce , or he wants to divorce, and I dont want to be with a man who pushes me away . We have got a 6byears old girl.

My husband says that he will do and give whatever is needed for our child to live like she is living now and he would get all her needs.

It's worth mentioning that I work part-time and make less than 2k a month ! As I am the one doing the school round.
And as our child will be staying with me all the time, I will not be able to work more hours.

I do not own a property, no mortgage, and d wish to move out of the house.

I am not sure how much to ask for child maintenance?? Also he offered help with housing.

The fact that I am sonsad about this situation, that I am not able to think at all is so frustrating.

Please help. Share ideas with me.

Have you calculated what you are entitled to via CMS? That's probably a good place to start

Without mentioning his earnings it impossible to say what you should ask for

There's a calculator .....

BladeOfMiquella · 11/12/2023 00:27

As a starting point there is a calculator you can use:

https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance

My ex pays what the calculator says he should, which I think is the legal minimum, and not a penny more

Calculate your child maintenance

Use this calculator to work out an amount of child maintenance for your children.

eventually it's unlikely he will pay and continue as much as he is currently claiming.
yes he will most likely have to stay with what the calculator states (although many men weasel their way out of this with self employment).
the concept that he will pay for your housing needs long term are highly unlikely or extra funding.
he's saying this to be nice during this phase, things will look very different in 6-12 months time.
how much family support do you have nearby?

This. Get as much as you can as a lump sum while he is feeling generous* and check what you are entitled to as child maintenance because within a year at most (sooner if he gets a new girlfriend), that is what he will probably be paying.

*also check with a solicitor if he is actually being ‘generous’ or if he’s offering you less than you are entitled to receive but pretending it’s generous because your name isn’t on anything (which is completely irrelevant on divorce).

You say you aren’t on a mortgage. Does he own property? If so, you are entitled to a share. The same goes for any accounts in his sole name and very importantly, any pension he may have.
