Worried about heating bill

It's minus 2 outside.

Our house was today 12.6 degrees. I've put the heating on now and it's coming up to 16 now but I'm so worried about the bill. This month was £250 with hardly having the heating on ☹️ so next month will be even worse.

We have heated throws etc but it's the actual air that's cold. We also have a dehumidifier running most of the day.

What happens when our credit runs out? What if we are still using over our direct debit payment? How far do they let you go into debt before they put up the direct debit we already pay £285!

Go somewhere cheap and get some fluffy socks, slipper boots, gloves, hats, dressing gowns for everyone

We moved last year from a 2 bed terraced to a three bed detached and the heating bills are scary.

Ours yesterday in the snow heating was on 18. It did get to 20 in the living room.

It ended up at £10

I keep the house at 20.5c through the day, occasionally I will boost this to 21.5c but not very often tbf, and overnight the heating will kick on at 17c. I have a four bed detached house in the N.E. The gas bill for November was £140.

It's normal for bills to be higher than the DD at this time of year. Have a look at Martin Lewis' website. There is advice on making sure your DD is right and fixes (although with the announcement of the increase from January, these will have gone up).

Thanks all will reply properly later. When I came down at 9am the lounge was 10 degrees. The window does need replacing as the double glazing is blown and also it's coming away from the frame but it's a massive bay and would be £1600 to replace. Heating has been on for 2 hours now and tbe lounge is now 12 degrees

We need to ensure that we get some credit back in the spring as we need that money ☹️

@Nonentity2023

''We experimented last winter and discovered that it was cheaper for us to not let the house get too cold and then try to heat it up. When we did that it took several hours to reach temperature''

I agree with not letting the house get really cold so that it does not take ages to heat back

I am heating my house when I wake up and it quickly gets to 17/18 then the same in the evening: quick burst of heating to warm things up. It doesn't need to be on for very long. I have think curtains and I think I will get a couple of draught excluders for the front and back door as well.

Seal around the window then and get that plastic secondary glazing? And line curtains with blankets?

I don't how much it is to run a dehumidifier but are there other options ?
