Is Costco really worth the price of the card?

My husband can get a card for £35 through his work. I’m tempted but only if it will be worth the saving on the cost of everyday items.

We have a chest freezer and have space to store bulk items. I’ve had a look on their website but they tend to show the prices of large ticket items rather than food / toiletries.
I’d be buying meat, cheese, loo rolls, pet food, big bags of frozen food etc.

Does anyone have a card and are they worth it? Or are supermarkets just as good?

I shop mainly at Costco and Lidl. I have a chest freezer and lots of storage space. At Costco I bulk buy toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing detergent, Finish dishwasher tablets, milk, paper napkins. Some of their excellent quality meat is sourced from local farmers and prices are lower than the supermarket. Tyres are cheaper than found online, and clothes are good too. Some years back, I found out that their own brand, Kirkland, exercise leggings (at the time) were being made by Lululemon, so bought several and I'm still using them.

Anything not priced at £00.99 is on sale and clothes are often a good buy. I have bought flannel shirts (£3.97), Speedo swimsuit (under £4, can't remember exact price), hooded, waterproof, padded jacket (£19.97). Their Apple products are the cheapest I have seen. I recently bought an iphone for £100 less than at the Apple store, then sold my old phone elsewhere for £85. Apple trade in was only £75.

You are now allowed to add a friend to your membership for £19, so your DH could try asking a work colleague with a membership, about this.

Not always cheaper but quality very good esp meat and fish. They often have great wines at good prices but these aren't cheap wines that you get in supermarkets.

The other thing that I like is that their customer service is excellent. Any problems with a product they just take it back. They are my go to for large items now because of the peace of mind this offers. They extend manufacturers warranty.

The fuel is worth while, it’s often 10p a litre cheaper.
so if you have a 50 litre tank that’s £5 per tank.
if you fill up your tank once a month, month 6 you’ve broken even on the card.

after that the next 6 months you’ll save £35

inside the store the issue is discipline, go with a list and stick to the list.

I go with dd who has a card, hot chocolate & fairy laundry liquid is all I purchase. Dd gets pampers and bottled water.

they have 2 bbq a year for friends and it’s easy catering

also for children/family parties great for catering

other than that as many pp state supermarkets can be better value

Tinned stuff is a lot cheaper. I like the cheese, nuts and wine too. The tomatoes are good and the Romaine lettuce. You get random branded stuff which is hard to find in other shops as I think a lot comes from America (I use to live in America so it’s nostalgic for me). Toilet roll and kitchen roll good. Tonic water good. We use it quite a lot and have the executive membership so normally after taking family and friends we get enough rewards to cover the cost of membership. Petrol cheaper.

If you can fill your car up regularly then yes. It's 12p cheaper a litre than the supermarkets here.

I used to have a membership. But then they stopped doing the pot of thick, creamy yoghurt with stewed apple/ sultanas in the bottom (c. 2014) so I stopped.

It was nice for a change, a browse and more variety and at the time Tesco was my nearest supermarket, which isn't that cheap. Plus I had 2 freezers. Now I don't, I couldn't store things like the bulk meat or frozen items which are good. The Kirkland maple syrup was amazing! Some things are better quality but not all. Can you check online prices for things?

I think Aldi is the cheapest supermarket for what I buy. Not necessarily much variety but way cheaper if you're on a budget.

We love Costco. It’s great for things like toilet rolls, kitchen roll, bin bags, washing powder etc. Sometimes an item doesn’t look cheaper until you realise the pack is larger. I think it saves us a lot.

We r in there once a month. Got my prescription glasses from there recently. Half the price of the high street and ready in 2 days. Got a TV from there stopped working after a Yr. They refunded us the full cost of the TV because they could not fix it. We would go there more regularly but limit ourselves cos we would run out of money spending.
