Hi all

for the rest of the year I am going to try and do a no-spend month(s) as I have a big credit card bill that needs paying off!

my partner and I have decided not to “do” Christmas this year for each other and luckily we did DS Christmas shopping last month.

rules I am setting below.

income: £2158.

none-negotiable spends:

  • utilities / bills / nursery (£907)
  • food (£250)
  • fuel / travel (£70)

remaining: £931

acceptable spends:

  • any pre-planned outings made pre-October.
  • unforeseen emergencies

unacceptable spends:

  • hair / beauty
  • clothing
  • Take away coffee (you have a thermal flask, soggy!)

feel free to join in and document how you do!

Ooh. I’ve never done a no spend! It scares me a little… because I’ll probably fail! But yesterday I was annoyed at myself for once again being ripped off buying expensive shite food whilst out! £50 at Yo Sushi for me and my 10yr old… I didn’t even buy a drink and I was still hungry! 😱

I am determined to stop being stupid with my money!

I would like to join. We have overspent in October mostly on shopping and groceries. Going to try and do asda click and collect this month as then I can see total each week to stay on budget. We also have the most expensive time of year coming up. Have a trip away my sons birthday and Christmas.

Psychoticbreak · 06/11/2023 17:53

I urgently need to do this as even last week I overspent so from today:
11 quid in shop on top ups. Going for NSDs the rest of the week.

DarlingCoffee · 13/11/2023 07:17

Attempting a no spend week here! I’ve got to
rein it in now until pay day at the end of the month.

Poppins17 · 13/11/2023 17:34

I’ve started doing cash stuffing and so far haven’t spent anything extra on unnecessary unbudgeted items - I’m really enjoying it and as a bonus have some leftover at the end of the week to save on top of my normal savings 🥳

Soggybaps · 13/11/2023 18:17

@Poppins17 how did you get in to cash stuffing? I don’t really understand it as most
of my bills etc arent paid via cash? So do you withdraw the money to put the money back in your bank when the bill is due? Sorry if that’s a really stupid question lol!

Hi there, I need to join this as I really do not know where my money is going.

  • I have no social life- so eating out, drinking out and travel isn't a thing.
  • likewise I never buy new clothes as don't need them.
  • My guilty sin is that I quite often buy a sandwich for lunch instead of making it. That REALLY adds up - close to £10 spend a day on those days- because of all the snacks I buy too Blush
But that's maybe 2 or 3 days out of 5.
  • children are REALLY expensive now. They do a lot of clubs, so need kit, plus lots of club and school trips happening. Pay approx £700 per month for 2 dc. And that's not including what their dad pays- he probably pays another £350.
  • supermarket food - probably paying £150 per week. So £600-£700 per month. Big expense.
  • don't buy anything for the house,
  • fuel approx £50 per month
  • pets approx £100 per month

It all adds up to too much- without me doing anything out of the ordinary.
