Is that a think in the UK?
where you can claim back tax releif on any medical expenses incurred over a year?
I have googled but not getting much information on the UK situation regarding it.

You need to be a bit more specific about the circumstances but I think the answer is no as most medical needs are provided by the NHS.

Thanks, yes i understand that, same as our public system its covered for the most part but can you claim back on prescriptions and things you were charged for? everything we do have to pay for we get 20% back on where I live and Im just wondering is that available in the UK?

In the U.K. there are free or reduced cost prescriptions for certain diagnoses or financial situations but not a tax relief system as you are describing.

Presumably no tax is charged in the uk on medical items.

so how would you claim tax relief on items you haven’t paid tax on in the first place?

Thank you!

I think the question was around whether you could claim back income tax on medical spend....

BMW6 · 28/09/2023 20:09

Expenses can be claimed where the expense is incurred wholly, necessarily and exclusively in the performance of your work.

So no, you cannot claim for medical expenses.

BMW6 · 28/09/2023 20:20

Re my post above, I mean expenses being claimed as an income tax relief

Pleaseme · 28/09/2023 20:25

No income tax relief against medical expenses in the UK.

vinoandbrie · 28/09/2023 20:27

No you can’t. No such deductions are available in the U.K. in respect of medical expenses.

Dogsitterwoes · 28/09/2023 20:48

VAT is chargeable on some medical aids, and some people are exempt from paying that.
