U.C. Non dependant Full-time student

My son is due to start at university next week. He will be living on campus full-time and only coming home when uni is shut for Christmas, Summer etc.

I get £85.73 a month deduction from UC as he is currently not working so is a non dependant.

He is 22 years old.

Will I still be deducted the amount when he is a full-time student?

I have checked online but found different answers.

I also am interested in this. I wonder if it depends if he is classed as an independent student or one supported by a parent. Does he get the full loan?

Hi.
Yes, he does.

He will have a tenancy agreement saying he lives elsewhere surely? So he's moved out?

Babyroobs · 20/09/2023 22:19

As above he won't be classed as living with you if his main residence is elsewhere so you shouldn't have a non dependent deduction applied.

From your housing element? You’re not going to get that back if he doesn’t live there

I asked my advisor about it a couple of months ago as I knew it would be a change and she said that I would still have the non dependant deduction as he would still be classed as a non dependant who would be expected to contribute money to the household.

I wanted to check and see if anyone was in the same position as I have been told incorrect information before.

He should come off your claim as he doesn't live there once in uni accommodation

Thank you.
I'll bring it up with my advisor again.
