I feel our are getting out of hand now and they seem to be refusing to budge. Looks like we’ll have to cancel some of the things (which is fine, and I know it’s a luxury and lots don’t/ can’t have a big TV package). What are you all paying for Sky and have any of you recently managed to challenge their payment hikes?

Full package is increasing to £160 for us (just not the highest possible broadband).

Thank you!

Yes-we cancelled completely last month! I can’t say I’ve missed it at all 😂. We’d been with them since 1998! Saved a fortune.

Imfullofcrazyideas · 17/09/2023 11:43

Hi yes ours is now about £145 a month.

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 17/09/2023 11:48

I thought it was pretty well known that on a yearly basis (or whenever your contract is up) you should call up and attempt to cancel tv/broadband services like sky, after researching an equivalent service with a competitor, e.g “I am able to get a similar package from Virgin for £x, what can you do to match this?”

Most of the time this results in a significant reduction in costs without the hassle of switching. And then if not, switching is the way out - rinse and repeat after contract done. It’s a pain in the neck but all of the companies are pretty clear that their pricing structure benefits new customers not loyalty!

AuntieMarys · 17/09/2023 11:49

We just have broadband...£27. Had Sky and never watched it. We have Prime and Netflix...quite enough.

Chenford · 17/09/2023 11:50

Cancelled it and got Now instead (Sky entertainment and Sky movies).

Never looked back.

BigcatLittlecat · 17/09/2023 11:51

Our was 95 and they put it up to 140. Called and said we have been customers long time etc. They dropped it to 79. So worth a call!

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 17/09/2023 11:52

thing that worked for us was actually cancelling, then wait about 3/4 weeks and you get new offers through the door begging you to come back. Reduced ours down by over half when we signed back up

strawberry2017 · 17/09/2023 11:52

always call, tell them you are leaving and they will find you a better deal.
Also consider what you have? It sounds like you have everything - do you need it all?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/09/2023 11:52

Yes, every time my contract ends (every 18 months) I speak to retentions and they find me a deal on the first call. Don’t waste time with the regular call centre, say you want to be put through to cancel but when you speak retentions tell them it’s too expensive to renew and they will find you a better price.

Thank you. Yes, very well known. As I said in my OP, they are refusing to budge on the price.

Apologies, I missed the “refusing to budge”. If you’ve tried retentions dept, the only way really is to cancel and find alternative provider.

Like a lot of others I’ve got decent broadband, basic TV package and top it up with Netflix/Prime/Disney Plus etc. At the prices you’re paying a month you could go high speed broadband and basically all the separate streaming services and still save money.

PuppyMonkey · 17/09/2023 11:58

Madness. Utter madness to pay that much. Cancel it and get Now TV where you can watch the same programmes whenever you want but without the adverts. I subscribe and cancel when there’s nothing on I want and then resubscribe whenever there is.

Can’t remember how much it is but I’ve never ever paid full price for any of the packages, they always give me an offer. Latest one is the entertainment package for £1 a month for 3 months. We have our broadband with Sky and it’s about £27 and then we also get Netflix or whatever and cancel as and when we feel like it.

Atomsaway · 17/09/2023 12:45

We cancelled the broadband and phone line and changed to community fibre, which has a far better speed.
Just have the basic TV package, which also includes Netflix.
I think, in total, we pay £55 for TV and £30 for broadband.

AtomicSquash · 17/09/2023 13:17

We pay 25 for broadband and 15 for sky TV and netflix. No add ons like sports or movies etc. As another person has said you have to actually cancel then they come at you hard with the deals. I have done it multiple times.

Smleps · 17/09/2023 13:19

Yes our package was £97 a month and we got it down to around £47. We upgraded our broadband with them and got a Q box all included. We were totally prepared to cancel but happy with our new monthly payment … for now!

Shadowboy · 17/09/2023 13:22

That’s insane levels of cost
for TV watching! We pay £27 for broadband (£16 for the phone line) then £6 for Apple TV, £7.99 for Disney and then £7.99 for prime but that includes the free delivery.

You’d need to be watching hours of TV to make £160 odd worth it!

pear6782 · 17/09/2023 13:44

Our bill went up to around £200 a month - no way was I going to be paying that much! I called but the only real way to bring down the price was to cancel most of the packages and just leave basic tv. Cancelled it in the end as that didn't seen worth it. Kept their internet and have bought apps like discovery plus (for sports) and Disney plus instead. The kids barely noticed the change - just gave them the new remotes for the amazon fire sticks....

abbs1 · 17/09/2023 13:51

Yes we did. We were paying £120 a month and now it's £52. We have broadband and just the basic TV package now and then the rest we watch on apps.

Clefable · 17/09/2023 13:54

We cancelled all TV a while ago. You can get almost everything on Now TV and other streaming stuff for cheaper, especially if you just subscribe when you want to watch something.

We had Sky broadband for a year but they are putting price up to £33 so we are moving elsewhere for £25 a month. If we were new Sky customers we could get £26 a month again but I'm not paying £7 a month more for being a loyal customer so we are leaving.

Islandsadness · 17/09/2023 14:02

I've tried to negotiate and been told no, so asked to cancel and suddenly there were deals to be found! Just call their bluff

Sparklybutold · 17/09/2023 14:05

I'm with virgin. We were paging £55 a month. I tang to ask for reduction as I could see the same welcome package at half of this. They said no. So I left and my husband joined as a new customer.

Trainstrike · 17/09/2023 14:09

I know lots of people who've called their bluff and taken it to varying stages before Sky have suddenly been able a reduction of up to two thirds. We just use Netflix and Prime now, fed up of the stupid negotiations needed.

Bananas1350 · 17/09/2023 14:13

Our contract finished this month. We went to cancel as they wanted nearly double for what we already have. They did nothing to try and get us to stay. I now have Now tv for cheaper.

Daisydreaming1 · 17/09/2023 14:16

We pay £42 a month for sky and broadband (though them as well) we’ve got a basic sky package with no sport or children package etc and we get Netflix included in that too.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 17/09/2023 14:24

We cancelled last year as the bill had gone up enormously. About a week before the contract was up we got a call with a much better deal. We don't have broadband or the film package any more, but do have Sport and pay £40, which is still too much really.
