So Ive opened a new claim for UC, my partner doesn't get paid a great amount and I'm part time on very little, we have 4 children, I've Gotton an appointment with obviously a list of things I could take for proof of ID my parents aren't helping at all Infact being quite useless because they think a birth certificate and bank card will do it, times have definitely changed so can anyone help what they took when you claimed UC? I have the full list on my log in but my god I have no idea what they want, I don't have a passport, no drivers licence, I don't have any billing letters because it's all done online or I've torn them up because they out of date, my bank for bank statements is miles away I can't get to it in time for the appointment I'm lost someone help.

Council Tax bill?
If you have a printer then print out an online bill for one of your utilities.

National insurance number

Your last payslip or P60

Information from tax credits or child benefit

Your bank card and birth certificate

Any official letter with your address on.

I wouldn't worry too much.

If you've not got enough formal ID then they do what's called a Biographical interview. This uses sets of questions which allow them to find either or both of your footprints on official systems or information they can verify.

Link below may be a bit out of date but gives you some idea of how it works.

What do you expect your parents to do? You are a grown woman with 4 children

Sell123 · 30/08/2023 10:49

I went for my ID appointment yesterday. I took driving licence, card I want the UC to be paid into and birth certificate and that's all they wanted.

Bemyclementine · 30/08/2023 10:52

I'm not sure what your parents have you do with it.

I took passport, bank card and statement, pay slip.

Your employer can verify your identity if need be. You have payslips and a national insurance number?

Get yourself a document folder and start filing away official documents there for you and your dc - your NHS numbers, recent letters or bills with your proof of address, tax credit and child benefit award letters, your paperwork from employment etc.

Use this as a lesson to start getting organised and adulting ! X

Your partner will also need to verify his Id and make a joint claim with you.

Are you currently receiving child tax credit?

Another proof of ID will be your tenancy agreement with your landlord.
