If you Google the pay band, check if your entitled to outer london weighting add it up, there’s a pay take home calculator, you just put the total amount the annual salary is, your tax code if you know it and it tells you the yearly, monthly, weekly take home salary.

BAnd 7 start looks like about £43k. If you're in the NHS pension scheme you'll pay a little under 10% of gross into the pension before tax etc is calculated.

On that basis, assuming you're on the 'standard' tax code you'll take home approx £2,200/month.

I take home around 2800, that includes some weekends though.

giggly · 30/08/2023 22:03

Depends on what country you live in Scotland take home of £2620, that’s tax, NI & pension off

honeyandfizz · 31/08/2023 20:41

I am top band 7 and work 2 weekends a month, take home around 3.2k a month.

bakebeans · 01/09/2023 11:34

Bottom band 7. No weekends or overtime £2500 per month after tax.

SadBut · 16/09/2023 14:55

Hmm frustratingly the government website is saying £2817, VERY different to actual pay that people get in real life!!

SadBut · 16/09/2023 14:56

@bakebeans
Is that with pension payments?
Or other salary reductions?

OP posts:
SadBut · 16/09/2023 18:54

@Singinghollybob how many weekends? Is it all day across both days?
Thanks

OP posts:
bakebeans · 16/09/2023 20:50

Yes with pension payments.

SadBut · 17/09/2023 07:13

@bakebeans
Sorry for all the questions
I've got a big decision to make regarding this and carnt afford to get it wrong
How much are the pension

Hi, it's 9.3%. Roughly £350 a month sometimes more as I do get paid overtime if I've had to stop behind etc. You can do net income calculation on money saving expert.
basically salary works out an extra £50 a month from what your band 6 pay is. You don't get any pay rise though for the first 2 years.

what line of nursing are you doing? Is it worth doing for 12 months?

SadBut · 17/09/2023 08:25

I'm PT B6, with 3 teens
I currently get UC
I'm worried I'll take the new job and still be struggling (loads more hours n stress n travel costs plus do younger teens do still need parenting)
PLUS
oldest is looking to go to university next year, so not if I take job not only will I not get UC, her loan is substantially reduced Confused

Bottom band 7 £2530, no weekends, pension £350.

Earned more at top band 6 with weekends and nights. Too tired to do bank these days.

I’m getting out soon, worst decision I ever made. If it’s a managerial band 7 I would think carefully unless you are looking to use it as a stepping stone. I do so much for my money, it’s incredibly stressful and not worth the tiny increase from top band 6. You only get the real benefit if you can stick it out a few years but few do that long as ward managers which is what I am.
