Can anyone help me understand benefits/work

Hi I have just taken a job full time which is obviously beneficial to me and my child in the long run.

I currently claim UC, I got £1770 this month with no deductions because I earned under £379.

This will obviously change soon and I'm trying to work out my entitlement and my earnings and all that so I know where I stand before it comes to it

So I should earn around £1270 a month my work allowance is £379 and like I said above I got £1770 this month no deductions.

I followed this though what I've attached and it's saying £495 will be taken from my universal credit. So if my maximum is £1761 and I earn £1280 from work they can't touch £379 which means that they can take 55p of every pound in 900 which means it's £495.

So if that calculates right I should earn £1270 from work and £1266 from universal credit but that just seems too high! I get my rent and childcare bill 85% of it comes back through UC.

Can anyone make sense of this for me.

I just like to know where I stand and my new hours start in September!

Can anyone help me understand benefits/work

Using your figures and treating £1270 as earnings after tax/NI and any pension. MAx UC - Standard Allowance plus anything for rent, kids etc - is £1770.

1270-379 = 891. Apply the .55 taper and amount deducted is £490.05.

UC payable is £1279.95.

So looks about right.

UC is structured so people should always be better off in work which is why the Work Allowances have gone up and the taper rate down.

Sounds about correct. Uc is very generous for working people with a child.
