Hi
Please could anyone help?
I've just accepted a new job, net salary per month is £1,263. It's 30 hours. I'm 34.
My partner works 40 hours and his net salary per month is £1520. He's 35.
We have 3 children and childcare is £1625 a month.
Our rent is £895 a month, council band B.
Could anyone help with whether we'd be entitled to any UC help please?
Thanks

Run the figures through entitledto.com, it's surprisingly accurate

I presume you currently get UC ? If so what is the current total of your elements? I presume your current UC award does not have a childcare element on already ?

Babyroobs · 18/06/2023 13:49

Crazy that your childcare costs are more than you are actually earning? How old are the kids ?

Currently don't get UC.
The kids are 7, 4 and 3.
It's for after school care for all 3 of them x

Never applied for UC as didnt think we'd be entitled due to partner working. But with the childcare want to see if we'd be entitled x

There’s other calculator, I think turn2us, maybe their website won’t crash. I would bet you qualify for UC

Babyroobs · 18/06/2023 14:06

You would definitely be entitled with high rent and huge childcare costs although wouldn't get a child element for the third child . Are you sure those childcare estimates are correct though just be after school care ? I thought you were going to say one was in full time nursery or something. You can claim childcare costs for all 3 though even though you wouldn't get a UC child element for the youngest. Just doing a rough calculation in my head you would get a significant amount of help, so i wouldn't delay applying. Even before you are paying childcare costs you have likely been missing out on a lot of Uc unless you've been on tax credits ?

Thank you.
The afterschool care is for an after school nanny, we now both won't be finishing work and home until after school clubs finish.
We've not been on any kind of help, we've really been struggling but rent was lower and we recently moved here. It was still the lowest rent we could find!
What roughly do you think we'd be entitled to? Trying to work everything out X

I make it around £1843 Uc per month you would get assuming your property is council and you don't have more bedrooms than you are eligible for. It seems an awful lot but I guess most of that is going on childcare. Please do double check with the calculator though. Also if your nanny is not ofsted registered you would not be eligible for childcare costs to be paid .
I have worked it out as follows .

max childcare element for 3 kids £1108.04
rent element ( assuming no spare bedrooms ) £895.00
Couples over 25 element £578.82
Eldest child element £315.00
second child element £269.58.

Total Uc entitlement before deductions = £3165.86 minus deductions for earnings of £1322.20 = UC payable of £1843.66 per month.

You need to make sure you submit all childcare invoices for childcare paid for in your assessment period by the last day of the month. Childcare must be ofsted registered. I am also assuming you have no savings over 6k which would affect any UC payment.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
It's private rent ( through an agency) not council.
And the nanny is ofsted registered 🙂

Ok so the rent element will not probably not be as high, it will depend on the local housing allowance for your area for the number of bedrooms you are eligible for.

The maximum rent allowance is 822, would that affect the outcome much?

If your rent is limited to LHA of £822/pcm then the Max UC/UC payable will be a bit lower. I think around £1770/month.

do you have the correct number of bedrooms you are entitled to by UC rules?

That's the figure the calculator came up with . Seems very high though.

@Carlotta367

It looks high to me too but the calculation from a Max UC based on the Allowances/Elements you need less tapered income after work allowance is right.

Apply and follow through; if we're way out and in reality you get nowt then, unless you've told some massive fibs, there's no downside.

Will def be applying, the childcare amount is so tough so hoping we may get a bit of help with that.

I guess on that figure you are getting all your childcare paid for by a private nanny, so are going to be better of by a whole wage when you start work. It is high but I can't see it being less unless there is some rule that says childcare element won't cover a private nanny, I mean it's not what most people use and therefore costs are likely higher than for other people using after school clubs.

It is higher than after school clubs but they're open until 6 and we need until 8.
I'll speak to UC tomorrow. Thank you for your help working things out.
