Childcare entitlement/1 injured parent

I've been trying to figure this out from the government websites, so apologies if I'm being dense, but I was just wondering if there is any way a two parent family can be eligible for the 30 hours free childcare if one parent doesn't meet the working threshold - but said parent is also unable to do full-time childcare because of a long-term health condition (severe and recurrent back pain from a herniated disc). My husband isn't on disability because he can work a few hours a week as an online teacher, and every couple of months does a couple of days' work in London (he works in the arts), but he was unable to keep working in hospitality (his previous main income) because of it. His condition is such that he can manage a couple of days of toddler wrangling a week, but he needs the rest of the weekdays to recover so I end up paying full whack for nursery, which is fairly crippling at the moment.

Appreciate we probably fall between two stools here, and we're lucky that we can just about stretch to it, but thought I should ask the Mumsnet brains!

A couple more things in case we sound really useless (maybe we are...), but he's trying to get his online teaching up to the required number of hours, he just unfortunately teaches an incredibly niche subject. And his back issues are such that when he has an episode he can be all-but unable to move for weeks (at least without vomiting), and day to day lifting children/changing nappies is extremely hard and potentially triggering for an episode

It's an income minimum rather than hours and since he probably charges well above minimum wage for tutoring, you might find he reaches the threshold.

@KateyCuckoo thank you! I could have sworn when I filled out a self-assessment it just said about hours - this is a game changer. He's just under at the moment (which I'm weirdly relieved about as had a horrible moment where I thought we'd missed out on 10 months of 30 hours for our eldest) but I think he might well be able to get up there by the time it's relevant for our youngest.

Thanks again; I am clearly unobservant.
