I'm unemployed (finished my self employed business last week cos it wasnt working out) but i will be looking for work so ive put in a claim for UC for the 1st time as a single mum and 3 kids.

My ex (who he wont move out of our mortgage home) is self employed for the past 16 years but he never go over £10k through the books as the rest is in cash which he pocketed it himself. (He is wanting the kids to live with him which its not happening).

Im just being curious....Can the UC get him to end his business and get a proper living wage job??

Thanks

Get him to get a proper job so he can support you? No but they can make you get a job.

Honestly you've started so many threads on this that you must be exhausted!

vestedinterests · 30/05/2023 11:55

How can they get him to get a new job under your claim?

Unloved1 · 30/05/2023 13:12

@KateyCuckoo 🤣🤣 i am exhausted but i just want to make sure. No what i meant was that we will be both claiming uc as a single person (and im seeking employment too). Im just wondering what would happen to him as he barely on a living wage to support the kids if they do want to live with him (when we sell our house ansld he got his own place)

@vestedinterests Im talking about his own uc claim? Not mine.

If they lived with him then he would claim all the kids related benefits

But this is sounding like you are asking how to get away with some sort of fraud/scam

KateyCuckoo · 30/05/2023 14:00

How on earth did you get a mortgage wtween the two of you with your lack of income?

I think you should concentrate on your own affairs and job hunting and not worry about your ex and his private benefit claims.

TeaKitten · 30/05/2023 14:07

will you even both qualify for universal credit separately? Is one of you moving out? They can’t make him close his business but obviously if we needs to earn more he can just start putting more of his dodgy money through the books to meet the minimum requirement. Whichever one of you that doesn’t claim for the kids probably won’t get uc anyway

@TeaKitten thank you. Youve answered my question of shat im looking for.

Sometimes its hard to explain it correctly by typing it.
