Car Discounts for Teachers?

I'm a fairly new teacher and i need my car to get to work but I have basically been told today that it is going to cost loads to fix my car today and not to mention it won't pass ULEZ in any case, I don't have loads of savings and it is not a great time financially but my car is vital for my work, does anybody know are places that would give teachers discounts?

I'd be surprised if any discount scheme aimed at a particular profession made any meaningful difference to affordability as they'd likely only be valid on new cars. If there is something, it's just going to make a new car a bit cheaper and may not be any better than negotiating with a dealer on the open market.

If your current car is old and not worth much, it might be worth trading it in using a scrappage scheme. Colleague got a good discount on a new small Hyundai by trading in an old car that was fairly worthless as it wouldn't pass it's next MOT without a lot being spent on it. Have a look at:

Hi thanks for this,

I am not holding out much hope yeah, I will be looking into the link you gave me now, seems like an option either way, not much left to do other than scrap the car at this stage alright, least i will get a little bit of money.

Unfortunately many in outer London are facing losing jobs etc through Ulez as no schemes are available to make a car affordable for low incomes. Get in line with carers, hospital and airport workers....who pay double on a night shift as going in one day and out the next morning, the disabled and elderly ....poorer people are not allowed cars in doesn't matter what your worth to society is ....maybe look at a job outside the M25?

Okay thanks for that information, Queengrimsby I will probably give them a call after the bank holiday weekend.

Jannier, I know its a nightmare isn't it, i am all for helping the environment but poor people are the ones suffering more than anybody when it comes to the schemes, it drives me mad.

No, they don't. Because they come home from the previous shift on the same day they go out on the next shift. They might pay one extra day per block of night shift, but they don't pay double.

They pay double that shift then don't they...your assuming they work a full week on nights but shifts like 4 on 3 off make it even more expensive as you're paying double every 4 days not every 5.
