Money making ideas

Over the last month I have almost reached breaking point but I have managed to make a bit of money - not thousands but some to buy some bits and pieces. I work full time so had to be things I can do from home.

I put lots of stuff on eBay and Vinted. I joined 2 mystery shopping sites and I know this won't be for everybody but I have joined two sites that pay you to chat.

What else is there? Can we add ideas here.

I'm happy to share details of the sites I've joined but I need additional ways of making money.

freelancing, I let someone know I needed work and their friend referred me and I make an extra £500 a month - do you have any skills?

northstarry · 25/05/2023 23:44

I have reasonable IT skills. Yes that's a good plan. Thanks

Tutoring. If you are good at any basics like modern maths, Eng lang, lit, sciences or languages, you can earn £20-60ph - more if you can become a 'supertutor' (good at all subjects and prepared ot travel to rich people's homes.

Gardening. Qualified gardeners charge quite a lot, so if you just want to pick up some cash you could advertise garden maintenance or lawns, patios and driveways for £12-15ph.

Dog walking. You could specialise in 1-2-1s with elderly dogs or dogs that need to be walked on a leash without others. Most professional dogwalkers walk 5 or more dogs at a time round here. Offering an individual service for £10ph, you could get fit, do two walks a day and get paid cash.

Babysitting. Without being a qualified childminder you can have a more informal arrangement to care for children before and after school or in the holidays.

I do a few survey sites - doesn't bring in loads but average about £50 a month doing a few in my downtime or on my bus commute to work x

MintJulia · 26/05/2023 18:59

I've cleared my house too. Now I'm starting on the garage.

We have a fleet of bikes, skateboards, scooters and tools.

There used to be a great thread on mumsnet called something like Earn £10 a day. Lots of ideas on there. Not sure if there is a current one but you could search for it.

If you can get into the habit of doing half hour to an hour surveys a day while watching TV, I usually make 15 a week. I have been tipping this into revolut account and converting into euros, have over 450 euros spends for holidays in July just from surveys and saving it. My favourite is linked here, you get 40p to start
I'm inviting you to join AttaPoll. Get paid to take surveys. Download the app here: https://attapoll.app/join/skawm

I also really recommend downloading the airtime app, you link to your bank card and get cashback. This can then be used off your phone bill. There are retailers like tesco so with food spending I usually get at least 10 a month of my phone bill. Use this referral code you get 50p to start.
KAVJXMCJ

Finally cashback site. I like quid Co. Here is link and you get 1 pound free to start. https://app.quidco.com/raf/1qnW

With cashback, every time you renew insurance go through this site. I've made 250 this year doing this (house, pet, car etc). I save this for Xmas.

These 3 things is nearly 1000 a year.

I’ll give these survey sites a go. I used to do well on Swagbucks and a few others but when I went back it was really slow!

used that link - didn't see any 50p.
Gave up soon after registering - seemed to ask for a hell of a lot of personal info. which could oh so clearly be matched to you as an individual.

reesewithoutaspoon · 08/06/2023 09:58

attapoll is ok for times when you are sitting there waiting or doing nothing. Like most survey sites it won't make you rich and the surveys can get repetitive and boring, but I reckon you could make £10 a week just doing a couple a day on commutes, etc. I m pretty much going to use it for Christmas expenses.

@northstarry

please may you share details of the chat websites?

Wtfisthis22 · 11/06/2023 20:07

Have you tried bank switches and referrals to get cash? You usually need a bit of money to pay in / out but you don’t need to spend it. Pm me if you would like any recommendations, there are also lots of threads on promo codes / bargains and money matters x

whatisnormalanyway101 · 12/06/2023 23:08

Those of you who use chat sites do you make much money from them? I’m desperate. Lost my job in London recently, working locally for rubbish money and really need to supplement my income. I’m at the point where I’m consider anything.

Temporaryname158 · 12/06/2023 23:14

Also interested in chat sites as I’ve sold everything on Vinted already, have a Quidco account and don’t want to give away personal info on the surveys

FrankieStar · 12/06/2023 23:41

Hey OP, it's not for everyone but market research companies are often hiring folk to do interviewing work - would be dialling on the phones and getting people to participate in surveys over the phone with you (no selling involved). Most companies require a minimum number of shifts or hours per week, but often it's flexible and you can do it around another job/ other commitments. A lot of places let staff wfh now, post covid.

If it's of interest, check out job websites like Indeed and search for "work from home telephone interviewing". Pay varies slightly from place to place, usually 0 hours contract (could be a good or bad thing depending on perspective!) and you might expect to get holiday pay added as percentage on each pay run meaning you'll take home around £11/ £12 an hour (ish... Depends on the company and some places might have different rates depending on experience, might be a tad less, also depends on the projects).

Flyering? Not sure what the pay is like for that - might be pretty knackering though if it's door to door flyering rather than handing out leaflets on the street, but imagine this might be flexible too, around other commitments. Might find adverts for that on Gumtree amongst others, depending on where you live.

Are you an animal lover with experience of cats/ dogs? Local cat sitting/ dog walking companies might be hiring, again I'd have thought this might be flexible also.

Are there office buildings near where you live? If so perhaps there's a company you can register with to clean offices in the evening (or maybe early mornings).

Maybe you could offer an ironing service for residents, locally, or work for someone who has a business like this already set up that needs the help if they're very busy. Might be the sort of job you'd need a car for. Again, this sounds flexible.

Good luck x

Prolific Academic pays for taking part in (academic) research surveys.

If anyone has a big spend coming up you can make £150 Amazon vouchers - americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/fRANCWFord?XL=MIMNS

110APiccadilly · 26/10/2023 22:52

I think there's a waiting list now but Prolific Academic is really good. Surveys, but guaranteed payment of at least £6/hour, often quite a bit more, and some have bonuses. They're generally academic surveys so more interesting/ less repetitive than market research. And the site keeps demographic information centrally so that you don't get screened out.

But surely at this rate you're earning barely over £2 an hour? Surely it would be better to pick up almost anything else?

Agree with tutoring - I have a friend who played cello for years and charges £30 an hour for teaching kids. Basically harness your skill and use that.
