I just want the crappy ends cut off, I last had it cut on new years eve, not the last one, the one before that but my ends look really straggly now 😬

Don't do it.

That's the best tip you'll get.

Dodecaheidyin · 22/03/2023 14:49

Very sharp scissors. Take your time.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 22/03/2023 14:50

Have you heard of the Mumsnet haircut?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/03/2023 14:52

Do you have a hairdressing college near you? They will cut your hair for free or for a very small amount as practice.

Squamata · 22/03/2023 14:52

How long is it?

I think if you want to do it at home, you need some really sharp scissors (hairdressing ones preferably) and it's better if you can get someone else to do it so they can see if it's level.

If it's long and you're just taking the ends off then you just have a go and take the same amount off all round. If you wear it in a ponytail most of the time it's a no brainer really.

Beware that hair seems longer when wet as it's weighed down. Easy to do a super short fringe etc as it bounces up when dry.

The good thing about doing it at home is that you can have several goes at it, so have a modest snip and go again if you need to.

If you need technique etc - check on YouTube

Its very long, below bra strap. I'd like it just below shoulder level.

I haven't had my hair cut by a hairdresser since I was 11! I hate going to the hair dressers and i refuse to pay for something I hate. That said I wouldn't cut a fringe or a bob, my hair is long so I just cut the ends off. It's wavy so cutting it exactly straight doesn't matter - I definitely agree though that you need to remember that it will be shorter when it dries.

Danikm151 · 22/03/2023 15:13

I put my hair in a high pony then snip the ends. I also have thinning scissors. Gives great layers.

look up brad mondo-he has tutorials

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 22/03/2023 15:15

Have u seen the butterfly cut look it up I've seen people on tik tok doing it

CatOnTheChair · 22/03/2023 15:20

OK, so you are wanting about 6 inches off?
I'd take off about 2 inches as a ponytail cut, with very share scissors and see what you think. It's easy to take more off. Harder to stick it back on!
I used to cut my own hair for most of a year, then go and get it cut each summer when I was back in the UK. The hairdressers definitely did a better job. Mine was OK.

HairDoHairDont · 22/03/2023 15:23

I always used to cut my own fringe, i'd razor cut it with scissors but I've never done the length before, which is why i'm a bit nervous.

I was thining of just putting it in a pony on the front of my head and trimming the ends but I don't know.

I know I have loads of length to play with, so I might just have a go.

Years ago there was a MN haircut. We all did it.

Looked like a load of 80s footballers with mullets.

I've used this one to cut it as a midi bob, sitting about the length of the video you posted:

Got lots of compliments, but I did use proper hairdressing scissors.

Always, always, always cut it longer than you think.

I did this one during lockdown, worked really well and very difficult to mess up

She's insane.

I'm just going to part it down the back, pull it to the front and cut it then point cut it. How wrong can it go 😂

Buy yourself a decent pair of hairdressers scissors, the type that has a big screw at the front so you can sharpen them with a whetstone. I only paid about £15.00 for mine and they are great.

Cut your hair wet and with one mirror in front and another mirror behind you.

Take of the smallest amount of hair, go slow and watch videos on you tube on cutting hair yourself.

You'll save yourself an absalute fortune😁

DaisyBoop · 22/03/2023 17:36

Don’t.

Calmdown14 · 22/03/2023 19:35

Buy a crea clip. Well a five quid Amazon imitation version.

If it's long you can do it yourself upsidedown or get someone else to do it at the back. It's really easy but I'd say just take a small amount as sometimes it sits perfectly another times not and it's easier just to repeat it than try and correct

Curlygirl06 · 22/03/2023 21:26

Depends if your hair is straight or not. Mine is wavy/ curly (hence my user name!) and I used the unicorn method to cut mine during lockdown. First time I cut an inch and a half off AND NO ONE NOTICED! Curly hair is more forgiving to be honest. Dead straight hair is not so easy, get someone to give you a hand.
