£700 GAS

We've just our First quarterly Gas bill through since moving into our new home in December. £700 absolutely obscene Confused. I knew it might be high as we have just been setting in , getting used to the house . We've not yet bought a new smart meter so couldn't really keep track . I'm stunned.

Seems normal. We've been using £200 a month during winter and that's only kept us at 12-14c.

My first reaction to your post was "Is that all?" Mine is way more than that. However, we pay monthly and things will even out over the summer.

My gas is around £100 per month at the moment sometimes £130 on really cold times

My thermostat is set to 18 and I lower it to 17 at night so ticks over ok but I do give it a boost to 19 to 20 on really cold days (like today)

The gas is only for heating and the shower hot water everything else is electric.

Now that's a different story Confused
Last months electric was £350

That sounds about right for the average price capped bill of £2,500. I use 40% of my annual gas kWh between December and February.
Have you included the government £400 in that bill?

Just realised the OP said it was just gas. Our December to February gas bill has been 40% of our yearly usage as well. I don't know if that is typical or not.

Average gas for a three bed on here is £1343.60, 40% of that is £537.

So £700 looks high to me assuming this is an average sized home, and the 40% which may or may not be right!

Sorry for the late update .. Must say i am surprised that so many of you are so 🤷🏻‍♀️ with the figure .

To Answer a few we have moved to a 4 bed detached. Yes we took meter readings when we moved in . Also took meter readings every month so we can not quibble the amount its all there in black &white . We normally pay monthly so maybe that is why it looked so high . Going onto a monthly plan now we know what we are looking at .

We can not get a smart meter apparently as we already have one installed its just not one we can see our usage ... This is what my DH has told me today but it sounds so stupid im not sure i believe him .

sorry correction, its now been explored further and we can ask for a smart meter .

For a four bedroom detached it's likely right if you have typical usage for that house size.

I worked out what our house would cost at today's prices but with our winter quarter usage from two years ago when we had the heating on at 17 mornings and evenings. It came to £425 and this was for a three bed semi.

For a 4-bed detached new build we were paying £120 DD pcm (dual fuel) over the year before the prices went up. We'd have used nowhere near that over the Summer months, and considerably more in the Winter, so I think your figures are OK.
