For me:

1 bed flat with just me in it. Heating on at 21 in the day, 18 overnight this year for health reasons. Tumble dryer used once a week 9n average.

I was on the standard variable rate for the first week of Feb, then moved onto Octopus' tracker tariff for the rest of the month

Gas 1185kwh / (last year 679wh)
289kwh on SVR - £31.47
896kwh on tracker- £57.83

£89.30 total

Electric 37kwh / (last year 121kwh)
7kwh on SVR - £5.78
37kwh on tracker - £16.94

£22.72 total

Standing charges included in the above

£112.02 all in, which is far less scary than December and Jan were.

How was yours?

Gas £45.45
Electric £38.40
Three bed semi detached, two people

Tromso · 01/03/2023 12:58

I thought the Octopus tracker was electricity only?

bellswithwhistles · 01/03/2023 13:04

How on earth are you only using £20 a month of electricity?!

Biscuit

No thanks, I'm diabetic.

Tromso, it's available for both fuels. Afaik there's a wait list to join it but it's still open to sign up for.

Just running my fridge, lighting, washing, a radio and my phone. I don't watch tv/have any other devices, and use gas for hot water/cooking/boiling water, I'm just a really low electric user these days.

Just submitted my figures and got my bill from Eon, come in at about 60% the Dec & Jan bills so goes to show what a difference the mild weather made (4-bed det).
G&E (inc.SC) £138.

Will be winding the DD right back this year as for only 2-months did our actual bill get anywhere near the £200/m DD. We have built up a buffer of almost £1k so will probably take it back to <£100/m.

I don't understand how some people's bills are so low.

Mine was £166 for both gas and electric, two bed semi detached, heating only at 15c for three hours (ish) a day. It was off during the milder weather a week or so ago.

Calmdown14 · 01/03/2023 14:28

My all electric house was £61 so technically they paid me £6 with the rebate.

However I had solar panels and a battery fitted on the 10th so I'm not really a fair comparison.
Just chuffed they have already made a difference as that's half the January cost (still going to take some time to see my money back!)

ifonly4 · 01/03/2023 14:50

Gas £116.48
Electric £59.24

Only 29 days, luckily down on two previous bills of £258 (cold Dec spell) and £241 (DD home and we had an extra visitor for a week).

We normally get to mid March and noticeably cut back, so fingers crossed.

Has to be the age, design and insulation of the house.

4-Bed newbuild, we haven't gone out of our way to save money, it is just that the heating isn't required to maintain a comfortable temperature. Of course washing / drying / baths / showers / cooking etc continues as normal.
Also we have split heating zones (upstairs & downstairs) so if no-one is using the first floor the heating remains off while the ground floor remains toasty (and of course vice versa).

We were as nervous as anyone going into the winter but our worse months (Dec & Jan) both came in at around £220 each and by the time the Gov £67 was taken off we were well under what we thought it was going to be.
I believe our old house (which was smaller) would have been more expensive.

It would depend on insulation how long out of those three hours the heating was actually on, and if they are split into two or more time slots. Bringing the house up to 15 degrees three times a day for example would cost more than a three hour time slot in the evening only. I think this is what has helped me halve our gas usage, the heating is evening only on days we are out of the house, that and dropping the thermostat to 14.

octoberafternoons · 01/03/2023 17:53

I just got mine today, it's £146.25 combined gas/elect.

2 bed terraced Victorian house, just me living here. Heating is rarely on and I'm out of the house a lot currently for work so it's disappointing it's still so expensive especially when the house never feels properly warm.

thefatpotato · 01/03/2023 18:53

Bloody hell. Ours was £530!! 5 bed Victorian terrace. We only have the heating set for an hour in the morning and 3 in afternoon/evening, thermostat set to 18°. Before the heating clicks on in the afternoon we're generally at 15° 😫

Pootle40 · 01/03/2023 20:01

Mid jan-mid feb was £380 combined. £315 after govt help. 4 bed detached central Scotland. £200+ is the gas element.
