Bulk purchasing sites

Please share your recommended sites to bulk purchase food and household items.
Our weekly shop budget for 6 is £100 and we are always tipping over by 20/30 now. The budget includes toiletries and cleaning products. I figured if I could bulk buy some things at a cheaper price it may help.
Been browsing costco and don't think much of their prices.
Can anyone recommend any good sites?
Does anyone rate 'who gives a crap' toilet rolls? They are a pound a roll but claim to last longer than the average roll. Should I be convinced?

Thanks in advance!

I bought who gives a crap at the start of pandemic when loo roll was hard to find. The sheet sizes are smaller than any other loo roll i've used, both in length and width, and the sheets ripped often too. Ended up using twice as much as other loo rolls, so any "double length" claim was negated for me. Only one roll ever made it in to my bathroom, the rest got used as hamster bedding, got a few left now over 2 years later. The hamsters like sleeping in it though Grin

I know you don't rate Costco but we are a family of six and I buy my loo roll and fabric detergent and conditioner from them. I can still get my weekly shop under £100. My cleaning bits are from Lidl or poundland etc. Non branded stuff is cheaper. I make up sprays by diluting neat multi surface cleaner like flash.

Whatshouldmynamebe321 · 25/02/2023 20:16

Aha thanks among...I had a feeling that would be the case with loo roll!

I already buy the lidl own brand laundry products...I didn't feel costco offered any cheaper. Which brands do you buy?

I buy all non branded, I look online and it doesn't look any cheaper than the supermarket. If you don't already use less washing powder than suggested then that's one way to bring that cost down. A '40 washes' box lasts us about 100 or a year for two of us. I don't use fabric conditioner. I buy the £1.50 lidl moisturiser, cheap coconut lidl shampoo and conditioner, their version of original source shower gel and so on. Though my main tip is just to use less.

DaydreamerBetty · 25/02/2023 20:37

I definitely recommend Costco, the Kirkland’s kitchen towel lasts us a family of four 6 months, Kirkland’s toilet rolls 3x months. Large box of washing powder 6months. It definitely keeps our weekly shop down.

Turquoisa80 · 25/02/2023 21:41

Farmfoods has good deals 4packs if 18 toilet rolls for 22£. I always get 2 packs of surf non bio 130 washes box for £26.

ArnoldBee · 25/02/2023 21:59

So if you watch the TV programmes pretty much you only need about 2 ingredients to do all your cleaning - one of them being white vinegar!

Toiletries wise Aldi do pretty good products and again you actually only need a couple of products to cover everything. I recently lined up all my products and was surprised by how many bits and pieces I had hanging around. The ones I'll never use went to the foodbank.

Best good value, soft and good quality bulk buy loo paper that I've found...

Cupcakequeen75 · 25/02/2023 22:38

If you are browsing Costco on-line then you will be seeing prices including delivery. To the best of my knowledge they do not show their in-store range and prices on-line (other than in the member deals email that comes out every (3?) weeks).
The range of items in store is different and quite a bit cheaper. We love it!😁

This looks a great deal, thanks. Which of the 4 types have you tried/would recommend?

Iamnotanugget · 26/02/2023 00:11

There's only 160 sheets per roll. Better value buying Tesco's own luxury soft 12 roll pack. There's probably cheaper out there too.

Where do you do your shopping? I try to buy some extra when there's a good deal on but I know this isn't always possible. Dried beans and chickpeas are very cheap. Cook in one big batch and freeze in tin sized portions, saving 50-70% even taking the cost on energy into account, these can then bulk out loads of meals

greenspaces4peace · 26/02/2023 00:29

massive costco fan. particularly for non perishables.
they've gone paperless, their specials/deals of the day now are e-mailed to members.

I just got the blue one and have reordered X 45 twice since then. I like quilted (can't quite believe I am having an earnest discussion about loo paper online but there we are...) and have a very particular DD14 as well. She agrees this is v superior! Much softer (but stronger 💪) than an Amazon one I tried that was scratchy and literally papery. Like wiping with a sheet of A5. Shudder.

Whatshouldmynamebe321 · 26/02/2023 07:19

Cupcake I didn't realise the online prices were higher, that makes sense now!
We do already buy non brands and toiletries from lidl. I realised years ago that most cleaning products were unnecessary, I keep a giant tub of white vinegar, some bleach and some surface spray. That's pretty much it!
Thanks for the Groupon recommendation for toilet rolls ill check it out.

It's 3-ply rather than 2-ply, but no, not as cheap as it looks.

Cornishmumofone · 26/02/2023 07:50

If there's a Rogers or similar near you, that can help to keep costs down: www.rogerswholesalefoods.co.uk

They sell stuff that's gone past its best before date.

Okunevo · 26/02/2023 07:50

It's 19.4p/100sh compared with tesco 16.3p/100sh. So cheaper if you take ply into account but bulky to store as they aren't double length rolls.

I now get their own Kirkland brand of non bio liquid. I wash every day with four kids and I have this much left since July last year. The amount you use is tiny so I decant it out into a little tesco non bio bottle to use. I only use half of a capsules. Seems to be as good as fairy and my dd has exzama. But if you like brands the have massive boxes of fairy powder for about £17 with tax ( 150 washes I think? ) or three boxes of fairy tabs for a bit less. If you know anyone with a card, you cab go in as a guest to check it out. Membership is 30 or 35 for a year for two. Remember some things have tax to add on but they display that in the smaller print on the display

Buy one of the eco balls for the washing machine. Mine was £6.79 on Amazon and says it does 1000 washes. Had it about 6 months so far and still going strong. Not bought detergent in all that time.
