Well we have a massive cost of living crisis going on right now.
I've just recently got two kittens, who now live alongside my old grumpy fat cat.
The cost of feeding them all has literally doubled in the past month or so, and that's not to mention the cost of cat litter, and being a responsible kitten owner, their subscription to the healthy pet plan.
that gets them all their flea and worming treatments and they got microchipped and vaccinated plus they get a weight check every month.
So, I need to be thrifting in other areas.
because the kittens and grumpy fat cat are none negotiable costs.

I decided to start this blog in the hope that its useful to me and others who are trying to lower their monthly outgoings.

My top tips for this first post, which i will go into more detail down the line are :-

1 - home cooked food is so much cheaper now than ready meals, plus, its generally more healthy, you can get a larger portion size, and have left overs for your work pack lunch.

2 - Have a good basic cupboard stock of ingredients - tins, pasta, rice, sauces - ill go into more detail in a further post.

3 - Bulk buy!!! Items like washing powder, fabric softner, cat food are almost always cheaper bulk bought from Amazon - plus you have less to carry when going to town, and you save time and never runout.

4- I bulk bought shower gel and shampoo from amazon during the black Friday/cyber Monday time.
I haven't had to replenish yet and I got quite good quality stuff.
better than if I had gone to town or pound shop.

5 - This is a must if you have a big household - buy a sack of potatoes from your local market.
Many will deliver for free or a small charge.
it will save you loads of money.
The potatoes are generally dirty potatoes, (still covered in soil )
but this helps them last longer.
you just need to rinse while peeling.

6 - I have found that the cheapest way to buy cat food is to "subscribe and save" on amazon.
you get a box of cat food delivered every month.
you get twenty percent off your first order, and then ten percent off every other order.
its the cheapest and
most convenient way I have found to do it right now.

7 - if you have the space, this will really help with meal prep - buy a small chest freezer.
its amazing for when you get your cooking shiz going on.
You can freeze meals for the days when you cant be bothered.

So that's my general tips for getting started.
Please follow and share.
I will be sharing recipies that are all fully costed per portion.

I will also be sharing posts on health and well being activities to try at home, and free things that I've found online.

thankyou for reading...

I love your food larder, it's interesting to see what other people get. My thrifty tips are --

  1. Aways drying washing on the line
  2. Heating to 18degrees an hour in the morning and evening
  3. Washing powder not pods
  4. Buying some products in bulk such as toilet rolls, rice, flour, spices, dried lentils
  5. Buying extra milk and keeping a loaf in the freezer to avoid a top up shop.
  6. Going shopping just once a week and meal planning
  7. Wearing clothes more than once
  8. Declutter and sell things on eBay, vinted or ziffit

Great ideas! My addition would be to not use shower gel, buy soap instead. It lasts for ages and is more eco.
