In case this helps anyone. I have used this range and it is good value and quality.

I also noticed that if you have a my waitrose card if you shop online there are some good money off vouchers to be had particularly on bigger shops.

I use somethign called Coupert which searches for these at the checkout.

It is £3 for delivery which isn't bad either.

Thanks this is really good to know!

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/02/2023 11:14

I'm not sure if the link works sorry, but could cut and paste? It basically says they are cutting the prices by around 20%

They often have good deals too like 2 for 10 or 2 for 7.50. I loke good quality and I get it from waitrose. Been a fan for many years. We moved 3 years ago and no waitrose in this town. We tried with other supermarkets but I found it a chore to do. When I said to dh. I'm going to start getting the good delivered again. He replied "oh good can we just go back to waitrose" so we did and will stay. Comparatively I don't see much difference in price from what we spent in Sainsbury or Tesco

ssd · 16/02/2023 11:18

Waitrose has lots of things cheaper than other supermarkets especially the essentials range

But i can't figure out how to use the hand held scanners?

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/02/2023 11:22

You don't have to use the hand scanners though

With the scanners you need to register first - with a credit/debit card. Then when you scan your My Waitrose card it releases the scanner, I find it useful as sometimes prices aren't very visible or offers aren't always apparent.

Mumdiva99 · 16/02/2023 11:27

Just checked the prices against Ocado.....Ocado range is still better value.

Liveandforget · 16/02/2023 12:26

@Orangesandlemons77 do you need to download the app for coupert? Would you mind explaining how it works if you don't mind?

Whereabouts do you register?

I still think Waitrose quality is better though.

Blueberrycreampie · 16/02/2023 14:28

Maybe you don't need a debit or credit card - I think I had to register with one, but it was so long ago I can't remember. I've looked up the system and you need a My Waitrose card which you can apply for online or in store. I think they'll give you a temporary card until you receive yours by post👍

Waitrose are not that expensive now if you shop carefully, mainly from the essentials range, and it’s way better quality. I felt guilty for shopping there and put our same shop into the Tesco app, the difference was about £6 on a c. £100 shop. I’m lucky not to have to worry too much about £6 so can make the choice but for me, the extra quality is absolutely worth it. I throw away a few pounds of Tesco produce when I shop there because it goes off so fast. I feel profligate shopping there in the current climate and if I could save £20+ a week going to Tesco I would, but for me it’s honestly just not worth the saving for the drop in quality.

Everywhere else is approaching Waitrose prices now. That’s what worries me - it’s one thing to choose to shop there as a luxury but when people are shopping there because there is no longer a much cheaper alternative something has gone wrong.

For me the best thing is to buy fresh food from Waitrose and do the odd Aldi run to stock up with some dry/household items like tin foil which are unnecessarily more expensive at Waitrose.

Also the drivers are lovely and they give brilliant substitutions and the odd feeebie.

Caspianberg · 16/02/2023 16:29

Waitrose essential baked beans hands down beat all the other big brands. And they do 1/2 sizes if you don’t use many at a time.

JennyTheDonkey · 16/02/2023 16:31

Used to do the regular shopping in Waitrose when I was feeling flush, then realised it was similar prices for a lot of things when compared with Sainsbury's. I agree that the quality is better with Waitrose, especially fruit & veg. Wish the offers things was like it used to be, the new process is fiddly.

A little reminder that Ocado don't operate in Scotland, Wales & N. Ireland, even if they did I don't think I'd support them as they've ignored us for so long plus I don't rate M&S so highly, so much added fat and salt in items.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 16/02/2023 16:37

Waitrose is my nearest decent sized supermarket so I often do a top up shop there. It's cheaper than the small tesco express. I do my main shop at Asda usually because of the blue light discount and the better gluten free range plus bulk buying things like loo roll and squash. But for extra meat, veg and a few bits for tea waitrose is a winner for me.

Mindymomo · 16/02/2023 16:39

I was in M&S earlier, the bread dept was saying they were reducing the cost of their bread because Waitrose had. Let’s hope other supermarkets have price wars, so we can get our food cheaper.

KnittedCardi · 17/02/2023 14:15

I don't know whether the other shops do similar, but every so often, and recently, I had 8 vouchers worth of £14 off per shop with Waitrose. You had to spend £70 in store (or £100 on-line), which isn't hard for a weekly shop, but because of the vouchers I bought extra cupboard items, like pasta and olive oil, toilet rolls (why are toilet rolls so expensive now!), and it really made a difference.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/02/2023 14:46

Yes, I know what you mean (vouchers) I think they send them to you if you have a my waitrose card, but I'm not sure.

They also do ones off the online shop if you spend say over £100 (easy to do these days) however this week I have not been able to find one online which is disappointing, as previously i had often been getting between £18 and £24 off a weekly shop. They seemed to disappear over the Christmas time too I'm hoping it is a temporary thing.

I use Coupert and Honey which find the codes for you online.

Ocado have been delivering to Wales for years.

QuicheQuoche · 17/02/2023 14:59

Waitrose fresh pasta is the only one my DD will eat, she says any others are too eggy.
Oh and sausage rolls, other shops ones are far too pale and soggy.

JennyTheDonkey · 17/02/2023 15:06

@SaltnPeppaPig sorry, didn't realise, don't think it's the whole of Wales though.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/02/2023 16:37

I like how they bring stuff up to my top floor flat. Although you know have to provide bags.

I alos like their substitutions because they often give you a bigger size. They did this with my coffee last week which was great as it was not cheap.

My disabled friend likes Ocado, says they also do money off vouchers and they use bags and bring it into her kitchen for her.
