Hi, I have autism and bipolar disorder, until recently I was self employed. However my mental health got a lot worse and my psychiatric team told me to give up work for now. I have closed the business and my husband has put in a claim for universal. I currently receive standard rate pip and I was wondering if my husband will be entitled to claim carers allowance for me. Please no hate,my mental health is seriously taking a battering at the moment and I'm worrying about everything. Thank you

Yes I think he will be able to claim carer's allowance. The Citizens Advice Bureau should be able to help you.

If think you he could for standard rate. I get carers allowance for my son he claims dla. I would definitely contact citizens advice to help.

Only if he is caring for you 35 hours a week.

Thank you so much everyone. He cares for me for way more than 35 hours a week, I often feel like a burden because of this. I really appreciate your help.

Does your husband work at all ? he cannot claim carers allowance if he earns more than £132 a week. If you have made a joint Universal credit account then carers allowance would be paid seperately to that but then deducted from the UC so you are no better off by claiming it. It does however give him a better class of NI credits towards his state pension. He would also get a carers element on the Uc claim. You need to be in receipt of the daily living component of PIP for him to claim carers allowance or UC carers element. If you have paid sufficent NI contributions over the past couple of years you should also consider a claim for New style ESA which is non means tested. This too would be deducted from a Uc claim.

I would submit new application to pip in relation to your deterioration and level of support needed.
