I have health inducing damp in one room.

I follow all the advice then only thing I can't afford to do is heat the house sufficiently.

I need to run a heater in the worst room. Please can you let me know the cheapest option, I'm leaning towards an oil filled radiator.

Thanks

Oil filled radiators aren't the cheapest type.

Convection heaters are the cheapest to buy.

None of them (electric heaters) are any more efficient than another. You put 2kW of electricity in all electrical heaters and you get 2kW of heat out. How the heat is delivered changes from radiator type. Oil filled radiators take a long time to heat up, and a long time to cool down. Convection radiators heat up quickly, but cool down quickly too.

I would consider dehumidification if you haven't tried it. You will use less energy if you can solve the problem with dehumidification. The downside is that dehumidifiers are more expensive to buy than electrical heaters, and possibly it won't do the job.

What I would do is see whether you can borrow a dehumidifier and test it out to see whether it does the job. You might need to leave it on for several days to dry the room out first.

Thanks, sorry should have said that we have a dehumidifier but it doesn't work as well when the room is cold. I was thinking of something that was on all the time to keep the room at a minimum temperature.

It is condensation mould from breathing and living (careful with bathing/cooking etc) as when I remove a wall hanging there is no mould behind.

If the room is unheated, get a dessicated dehumidifier to get rid of the damp. They are more effective in the cold.

If it's a room you're sleeping in, in the morning wipe the windows and leave them open for at least an hour to get rid of any moisture in the air from overnight breathing. Or leave a window open slightly all night.

I have a Dyson hot / cold fan heater in the cold box room (daughters bedroom). It works on a thermostat setting and turns itself off when it's warm. With the door closed it heats up quickly and doesn't cost much to run.

I do all that, have a karcher, have window open a little all night and then wide for an hour. Then shut with dehumidifier on.
