Thought I'd start the new thread. Been ages since I started a thread!

It's usually 10% of the value of the mortgage @WeightoftheWorld. So if the mortgage is £100k, max repayment without penalty is £10k. Our mortgage isn't that large these days, hence it's easier for us to go over that and why I'm sucking up the variable rate. Just..... Hooray for the chickpeas 😁

@xogossipgirlxo DS used to love the big Lego kits, we once brought a Ferrari back in DH's suitcase that was only available in America!

@TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans good news re your mum. It’s such stress with elderly parents.my mum is 100 miles away and nearly ninety. Living alone. I go at least once a week. The stress is incredible. What has happened re bob?

Wolfcub · 03/02/2023 18:22

Evening all. Sorry I'm really not keeping up with my plan to visit the thread regularly. Life still hasn't quite settled back to normal. Spendy day £300 car service, small works and MOT. £53 petrol. £4 book.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/02/2023 18:31

Think about attendance allowance for you as well need, that’s not means tested

soup looks delicious

shattered after a day driving and in law care . £50 petrol, fuckton on food

Happierwithouthim · 03/02/2023 18:58

Thesky my parents also 100 miles away, can't imagine going once a week. Luckily they're relatively young & in good health.

Happierwithouthim · 03/02/2023 19:00

Weight if he's in nursery they pick up everything when they're small. Could you do suppository? Trying to pin him down to get it in will be tough going but at least he'd feel better for a few hours

Unescorted · 03/02/2023 19:20

I hope all the poorly ones make a speedy recovery. DD at 21 gets everything. I am contemplating buying a yearly prescription for her.

wolf lovely to see you.
need the adaptations have come a long way. Especially bathrooms... Grab rails can be made to look like towel rails or design features, wet room styling makes amazing level access showers.
mrs loving the cake. And really nice way to settle your mum into her new home who doesn't love a new resident that comes with cake.

I have the memory of a gold fish... I will post this and read the page before again...

Unescorted · 03/02/2023 19:28

gossip to make a pav more spectacular later more than one ... Make 2 or 3 discs of meringue each slightly smaller than the last. Pipe some support struts, cement with Chantilly cream and fill each layer with a different colour fruit. Use Passion fruit, orange liqueur, orange juice and honey mix to drizzle over the top. Word of warning fill just before eating because the meringue goes soft quickly.

Off to pick the curry takeaway up....

WeightoftheWorld · 03/02/2023 19:40

Need Ohhh, in that case I think I've totally misunderstood this the whole way through the buying process, which isnt great! Haha. Right so these numbers for illustration, if our mortgage is £100k, and it's 10 per cent before charges, the most we can overpay would be £10k. So that £10k is over the whole of the life of the mortgage? Or just the duration of the fixed term we have agreed? Yeah I still don't think I understand which is a bit embarrassing...and DH doesn't seem to have a clue either. Hoping lender phonecall will be open tomorrow so we can call and ask them.

Happier I'd deffo be willing to try suppositories for DS, and DH as HCP would easily be able to do them, but nowhere seems to sell them here. I've asked at a few pharmacies in the past and they all seemed bewildered by the request. Even when he was admitted to the children's hospital I asked them for some and the nurses told me they didn't do them. So instead a nurse would have to come and try and force the medicines down him too which didn't work well either and he was soo ill then obviously being on a ward. Crazy!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/02/2023 19:44

I think it’s 10% per year for mortgage. Did you keep the t&c?
if you are in a fixed rated and end the fixed rate early by over paying you will also incur changes

Wolfcub · 04/02/2023 08:22

Morning I concur with Life it's x % of outstanding value per year usually.

This morning will involve a spendy trip to the farmers market. A less spendy trip to Lidl and possibly a car wash (don't have the facilities or parking for diy). Then rugby watching and book reading and trying to get ds to do his fecking washing so we can actually go on holiday in a week

ememem84 · 04/02/2023 08:22

Antibiotics seem to have kicked in thank goodness! So ds is chirpy. They’ve both just woken up which is a miracle. And as ds is 5 and can work the tv they’re downstairs watching cartoons. DH and I in bed with a coffee. Nice.

@WeightoftheWorld our mortgage allows a 10% overpayment. We can either do this monthly or on an annual basis. I think it works out better to save the 10% and then lump sum it as it saves interest over the long run. But whatever works for you.

I am chugging along paying off credit card. Being very strict right now with it. I had earmarked a regular savings account which is maturing in March to my pension. But will use the cash for my credit card payment. Hopefully a nice chunky bonus will come my way from work and I’ll be able to shove that against pension.

Taytocrisps · 04/02/2023 08:37

Morning everyone. I'm off to the hairdressers at 9.30. I'll hit the shower in a minute. Going to the supermarket after. I'm hoping to be back in time for the rugby. I think there are a few Welsh supporters here. May Ireland the best team win!

It's a Bank Holiday weekend here and I'm treating myself to Tuesday off too. I'm hosting my book club on Tuesday evening so I don't want to be rushing home from work and trying to get ready and be all stressed when everyone arrives. I'd like to come across as a relaxed, gracious host. I'm not naturally a relaxed, gracious person so no doubt something will go wrong. I went to a planning meeting years ago for something I'm involved with. I thought I looked very professional with my diary and notebook etc. but realized afterwards that I'd spilt some toothpaste on my navy cardigan and had a very fetching white stain all down the front!

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 04/02/2023 09:13

Good morning everyone 😊
Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes & support re Mums care home placement 🤗
Spends today, Tesco £72 , petrol £55 .
Have a lovely day everyone 😊

BigSkies2022 · 04/02/2023 09:31

Out and about with DParents yesterday, who very kindly bought me lunch: £2 on parking , £2 on half a pint for my dad, who wanted to settle up in a nice pub with his newspaper while mum and I looked around the pretty town. £8 on Sicilian sausages in the deli, which I will make stretch two dishes - a ragu and a lentil cassoulet. £10 in Sainsbury's Local, as I succumbed to the discounted Charlie Bigham fish pie and sandwich chicken for the dog as I needed a quick solution for the evening meals between errands.

£67 on the dog's haircut! Yikes! He's very short now and rather sensitive about it.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/02/2023 09:36

@Unescorted thank you! I can work on mastering my pavlova later on, hopefully making this one won’t put me off. This was kind of my new resolution, to learn how to bake. I was always envy of women who baked superb birthday cakes etc.

@needastrongoneagain oh wow it was something, I bet my husband would like ferrari too😂 I already bought him apollo v for Christmas, now he wanted space shuttle. I’m glad that I finally found some gifts that he really likes. He has expensive hobby, so it’s not affordable to me. He funds it from his self employment income. Doesn’t really enjoy new clothes etc., so lego was 🎯

have a nice weekend everyone. We have no plans for today tbh, I might start cleaning the house, do some workouts and read a book. My cat peed near the litter box which left me bit confused. I need to keep an eye on it too, maybe it’s just an accident. He doesn’t look ill, but he is definitely fussy and high maintenance

xogossipgirlxo · 04/02/2023 09:37

@BigSkies2022 67 quid eek. Almost as much as I pay for my blond balayage😂 Dog knows how to live life of luxury

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 04/02/2023 10:24

Hello wolf 👋

Sorry to hear about poorly kids, dd suffered a lot with her ears when younger, she ended up having grommets twice.

Ystd was a nsd, work was manic and I worked two hours over.

Today I need to get a few bits food wise but just a top up shop.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/02/2023 10:33

I spoke to my husband about cat and he said he cleaned up few times after him, because cat likes to pee on the wall (channeling his inner dog😂) and wee escapes between litter box bottom and lid. He’s very bright, naughty as always, so I think that’s this! I wouldn’t want him to be ill, he had tooth taken out not that long ago

Unescorted · 04/02/2023 12:00

Quickly gets a cheery "morning!" In before the day tips to afternoon.

@xogossipgirlxo I forgot to say make sure all the bowls, whisks, piping bags and spatulas are grease free. I rub everything with vinegar after washing in super hot water to make sure. Otherwise the egg whites won't do their magic. A teaspoon of vinegar or cream of tartar helps with the acidity too. Also don't over whisk.... You are looking for soft peaks (stop the whisk, pull them out & you should get little peaks just holding their shape) , put the sugar in a little at a time and whisk until it is shiny,... Go over and the meringue goes gritty and weeps in the oven. Still edible but not pretty.

Unescorted · 04/02/2023 12:06

Now ....
£67! Another reason to not have a dog.

wolf if they aren't washed before you go you can use them as import masking wrappers for the less legal duty free 😉 Teenage boy smell will put all the dogs off the scent.

£16 in Tesco for breakfast. Never go in just after the gym.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/02/2023 12:21

£3 in coop on ds food tech stuff I don’t have in the cupboard. Still forget a lemon

Unescorted · 04/02/2023 12:25

Why do they only tell you the food tech shopping list once you have been to the big supermarket?

BigSkies2022 · 04/02/2023 12:47

Well, I am paying London prices (for dog haircut), but even so, this is steep by our usual standards. It's a new groomers (to us) as the previous ones were taking longer and longer to do the same job, so we've switched. Ddog was extremely shaggy but I need to look at the level of service they provided and see if future visits are likely to cost less.

£16 at butcher. Need to find a present for the host of a party tonight - thinking just some flowers, mimosa and narcissus to herald the end of the winter.
