Universal Credit - Advance Payment

Hi,

Has anyone applied for an advance payment of UC, which isn't before their first initial payment?

I receive UC, it's another week until I get paid and I'm scraping by and struggling. I really could do with an advance so I can top up my gas and electric, and make sure I have enough fuel to do the school run.

Thanks for any help, please be kind with replies.

Hiya, yes it's called a budgeting advance, you will need to say that you need the money to replace something like a broken fridge as I don't think they usually allow it for the reasons you've given (past experience) and should be in your bank within 3 days of being told yes
Good luck op try not to stress and I hope you get an advance

You can get a budgeting advance but as the previous person has said you'll need to say its for a broken washing machine or similar.

I suggest you contact your local Citizens Advice and ask for a fuel voucher, that'll be £49 to top up one of your meters. You could also ask for a food bank voucher and that would free up some funds for other things.

You can also apply to the Household Support Fund which will be administered by the county council - look on their website. You can request fuel vouchers and/or supermarket vouchers.

You can only get the budgeting advance if your income from wages over the last few months is below a certain level and if you don’t have another advance still outstanding

Its a new claim advance as this is before your first payment. You dont need to say what its for - its recognised that you might need money just for living until your first payment.
new claim advance

I got one and you don't have to say what it's for.
I asked for food bank vouchers and they just offered the advance instead.

Sorry - misread your OP
The other posts are correct. You can only have a budgeting advance which is meant to be for emergencies or a change of circumstances advance if the change will bring more UC next payment.

Hi, I recently migrated from tax credits to UC and am currently awaiting my first payment. Because my tax credits immediately stopped I asked for an advance which I have received. When I applied for the advance it said I could have had £1,327 in advance. Would this be the amount that I am getting? When I enquired they said I was still at assessment stage and would have to wait for my statement to come through. It’s hard to budget when you have no idea what is due to come in? Sorry for the waffle but has anyone else migrated had had similar issues?

Hi, I am in the process of migrating from tax credits to UC and when I received tax credits the rent I pay privately wasn’t taken into account. Is it taken into account on UC?

If you start a new thread you'll probably get some responses. You've posted on an old thread from January

@Smith360 Under the pre Universal Credit 'legacy' benefits system help with rent was provided through Housing Benefit paid by the Council.

When you start a claim to Universal Credit one of the items you're asked about as part of the process is housing costs. If you pay rent to a private landlord then, normally, your UC claculation will include a Housing Cost Element. The amount payable is subject to a ceiling based on your perceived housing needs in terms of bedrooms and the market rents in your area.
