Can anybody help me with a payday loan for £100? Which company did you use please?

Mega embarrassed so have namechanged for this but I need help from somebody who has successfully applied for a payday loan for a smaller amount.
I need £100 for tomorrow to avoid our electric being cut off.
I have spent the last two hours trying to apply for a loan of £100 to try and sort this. I have three little children and I’m stressed.
Each time I go through the application with each company it takes me through to a company at the end called credit engine, makes you sign up for a free trial to access loans and then after that it only lets you apply for more than £1000 which I obviously don’t need.

Im worried if I try any more applications to this stage it will just fuck my credit rating more and I won’t be able to actually get the £100 I need.

Has anybody else been through this and can recommend a company who would loan me just £100 and that pays asap?

For that value it’s worth asking your bank for an overdraft then cancelling your overdraft once paid back, can be done online

Embarrased393 · 09/01/2023 23:55

Thanks @Danikm151
i have a small one already they won’t extend

Have you tried paying on your card anyway into unarranged overdraft ? Not ideal obvs but quick solution

my overdraft is 100 but can go about 300 overdrawn before payments fail

EezyOozy · 10/01/2023 00:01

Have you by or children under 5? I don’t think they can’t cut you off if you do. Or someone elderly / vulnerable in the house - you need to tell them and register for the
protected service (forgotten what it’s called sorry)

NoSquirrels · 10/01/2023 00:05

Have you called your electric company? There are measures to stop them cutting you off.

Pay day loans are not the answer.

spellingtest · 10/01/2023 00:10

Call your electric company first thing tomorrow. Definitely don't go down the payday loan.
If you work could you ask your employer for an advance?

Icanflyhigh · 10/01/2023 00:10

They shouldn't cut you off with young children they're not allowed to, and to get to the stage of being cut off takes a long time - they need a court order for a start.

Notcontent · 10/01/2023 00:30

Applying for one of those loans is the worst thing you can do. Contact your energy supplier first thing in the morning. And then work out a budget and a plan. Do not get yourself into more debt.

earsup · 10/01/2023 00:32

Call the company asap and set up payment plan then they wont cut you off...if you still need the 100....pawn shop but pay it back in a few days if poss as interest is high but for a few days wont be very much....i used to work in pawn...

Friendofdennis · 10/01/2023 00:39

I would do as others suggest and contact your fuel provider and see what they can do to help you. Do not apply for a pay day loan as it can quickly get out of hand. Also for future back up finance I would open a credit union savings account. They are designed to offer affordable low interest loans in order to prevent people getting caught in a trap of pay day loans. They are morally sound organisations who help people who may ordinarily not be able to get bank loans

Friendofdennis · 10/01/2023 00:41

Also you could call Step Change or Christians Against Poverty who can negotiate with your creditors

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/01/2023 00:47

Pretty sure they can’t cut you off if you’ve small children. Talk to them tomorrow, first thing. Be persistent. Don’t take out a payday loan, it will pile up and instead of £100 you’ll be needing £500 in a few months.

have you spoken to the CAB?

DonutsAndCream · 10/01/2023 00:57

Do everything you can to avoid taking out a payday loan.
They can not cut you off. The worst they can do is force you onto a pre-pay meter, if you are not on one already, but that will take time.
Unless action is already ongoing, hence the deadline?

LumpyandBumps · 10/01/2023 01:30

Do you already have a pre payment meter, and need to pay for emergency credit, etc, to stop the power going off?
If so have you applied to the electricity company for help?
I am with Utilita and they offer a ‘Power up’, which is basically a loan of electricity credit. I am sure other companies have similar schemes.
It has to be repaid as a percentage of future credits, but there is no interest or fee so it would be better than a Payday loan.

Floralnomad · 10/01/2023 01:32

Do you not have some family or friends who could each loan you £10/20 each .

BarbaraofSeville · 10/01/2023 08:27

As others have said, payday loans are not the answer (what will you do next month when you have the loan to repay and could be using more electricity if its cold again?).

There are grants available but you need to apply for them but you must tell your provider that you can't afford to pay and they should help you. It is very unlikely that you will be cut off with children in the house if you talk to them and let them know you are struggling.

Have a look at moneysavingexpert.com and do everything that is relevant to your circumstances.

www.moneysavingexpert.com/energy/ Good luck.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/01/2023 08:29

Oh FFS MN, stop scrambling links.

OP, go to Moneysavingexpert and look for the energy help link on the home page.

Unforgettablefire · 10/01/2023 08:33

Op have you tried your council? And the supplier? There are funds and besides that I'm not sure the company would cut you off when you have dc? Wouldn't they just put a prepay meter in as a last resort?

Ragwort · 10/01/2023 08:43

Don't do it, do you have any local support - local charities will often help, ask your Parish or Town council if they can urgently refer you. Local Churches may know of something like a hardship fund. This is why it is so important to engage with your local community - you may not need support but you will at least know where to ask.

HopeMumsnet · 10/01/2023 10:59

Hello everyone,
We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circumstances, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.
Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.
So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong.
Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.
We've compiled some useful links posted by Mumsnetters into a financial issues webguide, so that people experiencing difficulties can find all the relevant information in one place
Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

Embarrased393 · 10/01/2023 12:14

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. Things are so so stressful for so many at the moment.

To everybody that said to call up and speak to the supplier, I have done and they have agreed to friendly credit until the end of the week when DH gets paid.

To anybody else that had a difficult christmas, you aren’t alone. And to the kind person that messaged to offer to pay this, I have sorted a solution with the company now but lovely of you to offer.
Thanks for all the help.

Call your electric company today if you haven't already spoke to them.

Our electricity provider (EDF) announces on its customer service telephone message that it will not shut off electricity and urging customers to call and speak with them if they are struggling to pay a bill.

If possible avoid payday loans. I'd worry about the impact on your credit rating nevermind the astronomical interest rates.

harktheherold · 10/01/2023 12:20

Ah I see you've already sorted it, that's great news

EezyOozy · 10/01/2023 13:14

Fab news op !

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 10/01/2023 16:00

So pleased you have a solution other than the loan OP.
