I'm adding up all the savings I make on food shopping this year

So, I have started to log what I save each time I shop. I tend to buy reduced stuff for the freezer, or meal plan around stuff that is reduced and about to go off. I also capitilise on multibuys if it is something we will use in future. And I am a demon with the price per kg reckoning.

How much do you think I will have saved by years end? So far this year I have saved £74. Please note, that we rarely have to throw food away in this house. Everything gets used and is planned for.

Deals include
Turkey bacon £3.20 to £1.42 on offer (I bought all the packs there as I have to reduce my cholesterol so have swapped from normal bacon) all in the freezer.
3 pcks Portobello mushrooms down to £1 from £2 each - 2 packs for stuffed mushrooms tomorrow and 1 pack to be used in a beef noodle dish tonight.
Leg of lamb 40% off - into the freezer for Easter!
Porridge oats from £1.20 to 80p - again, useful for the low cholesterol diet.
Xmas wrapping paper, half price.

My freezer is bursting but it's a good job as our finances have just taken a hit after a change of career.

Anyone else doing this? What bargains have you found?

I'm not keeping a list but I found some absolute bargains last week ... cooked chicken reduced to 10p, falafels 10p, prawn cocktail 50p, duck breasts reduced from £6 to £1.
The only issue with keeping a list is that some of the reduced items I buy (eg; the duck breasts) I would never buy at full price Confused.

I managed to get 1.2 kg boned rolled leg of lamb from waitrose for £4.79 per kg last night, reduced from £20 per kg! I can walk there in less than ten minutes so popping in at 7.30 a couple of nights a week has been a godsend over the years.

Bear in mind that most things on multibuy aren't really saving money because they're on offer so frequently that you'd be silly to pay full price for unless you really couldn't avoid it (no storage and/or no spare money).

Or you'd buy own brand or go to a cheaper shop rather than pay an artificially high price for a full price branded item. Or you wouldn't buy the item at all, because you either don't need it, or it's an extra that you can't afford.

For example, I got some posh chocolate covered nuts for £2 in M&S a couple of days ago that were probably at least £10 before Christmas (580 g in a nice box) so I'd count this as spending £2 on something I didn't need (failing woefully at not spending in January) rather than a saving of £8+.

I bought 6 swedes and 6 bags of carrots when they were 19p in Lidl before christmas, sat and prepped them all into small chunks, mixed up and froze in bags the right amount for our family, got 16 dinner's worth of vegetables for less than £2.50.

My Mum also picked me up a christmas pudding for £1 from M&S for next christmas!

I got a non food bargain today ... Turkey roasting tins reduced to 5p each in Sainsburys !

Wow, some amazing bargains. I am very jealous of you that are picking up things for pennies, or who live around the corner from a shop.

@BarbaraofSeville Ah, the perils of the pull of the bargain. Luckily I only buy stuff we use and mostly buy based on price per KG (unless it is something we have tried and really don't like).

We're also blessed with an abundance of storage space, unlike my MIL who has the whole of her under-bed area filled with loo rolls!!!

I've not been near the shops today ( no need, the cupboards and fridge are bursting) but last night was at Lidls and bought the members offer for cottage cheese and saved £1.20 on two tubs. I am having to be VERY careful with fat content so these were on my to buy list.

Yes I'm lucky as I work about three minutes from a Sainsburys and I can pop in any time when I think there may be bargains around ... (sad!).

Today I have booked a groceries package from Too Good To Go. £3. 50 Never got one before so am interested to see what is in it. Scared it's going to be all stuff that we won't eat, or won't eat in time. Will take a photo and post later.

Put it all away before I remember to take a photo. But think I can remember what was in the package...

1 loaf of rye bread
1 packet of wholemeal bread rolls
5 packets of various sandwich meats
2 reduced fat skyr drinks
1 litre of vanilla low fat and no added sugar yogurt
1 container of fridge tomato and basil soup
500g chicken mince
12 gourmet breaded cod nuggets
I container of tuna salad mayonnaise mix

So not the best, but not the worst. I have frozen a lot of it. I think it would easily have come in at £20 plus. The low fat stuff is a god send and I'm taking it as an offering from the diet gods!

Whilst there I also picked up 6 cans of organic coconut milk for 40p each as opposed to the usual 80p -£1.

Going great guns. Must stop buying food now.
