Hi all new year having a clear out thinking of selling stuff on eBay Facebook ect. Thing is I’m on benefits full time carer for my disabled son. I doubt I will get much for my junk but everything helps at the moment with cost everything going up!! Thing is I don’t know if I need to declare it? Don’t want to get in trouble! Would few quid here and there have to be declared? Tried Google not sure seems you can sell your own stuff and fine? But wondered any experts on here? Or anyone on benefits who did thinking fine then got in trouble?

You will be fine if it's stuff you already own, the grey area is when people buy things to sell on for a profit, but if its a clear out you can sell your items no problem

It only needs to be declared if the annual profit is over £1k. You need to deduct what you originally paid for the items from the amount you receive to get the profit. I’d think it’s not that likely you’d be making a profit on many items?

Of course you don't have to declare it.

You can sell your possessions. You need to declare this if:

  • The sale takes your savings over £16,000 and you are also claiming Universal Credit
  • You are trading, or both buying and selling things on eBay to generate income

You don't need to declare just selling your things otherwise.

Some notes:

  • There's no savings limit on Carer's Allowance, only on the usually connected benefits like Universal Credit.
  • You are permitted to work as a full time carer on Carer's Allowance, so you can trade on eBay within limits. The maximum you can earn is £132 a week after expenses.

You’ll be fine unless you’re going to sell your faberge eggs.

Try vinted I've made £100 in a month just selling outgrown kids bits and bobs, just £2 here and there but it soon added up.
