Our bedroom is 14 degrees….

We’ve had problems with recurring damp in our room on the ceiling at the join to the front wall. HA have been out several times and tried replacing insulation in the loft and even put vented roof tiles on. It hasn’t worked. As a result the room always feels cold whether the heating is on or not. I dug out the gro egg and it’s saying the room is 14.2 degrees. I’ve been looking at oil filled radiators and halogen heaters, what’s the most cost effective way to heat it up a bit?

Do you have gas central heating and if so, is it 14 degrees even with the heating on? Reason I ask is that gas heating is much cheaper than electric heating. But if, for example, you don’t have a radiator in your bedroom, then an oil filled radiator is usually considered as the best source of constant heat.

I'd open the window and use an electric blanket for when you get into bed. Your bedroom doesn't really need to be warm if you only use it for sleeping.

Question is why is it getting damp.

If it is damp because the roof is leaking then repair roof.

If it is damp because that is the coldest part of the room and the room has high humidity then reduce the humidity (normally condensation occurs on the coldest part of the room - the windows).

14C is cold, but should be bearable for sleeping in if the room isn't damp. I often have my bedroom below 12C and its fine. Because I keep the air dry in there with a dehumidifier.

The air is probably full of moisture if it's damp, this lowers the temp and it's hard to heat air full of moisture. Get yourself a dehumidifier I think that'll help. You also need to try figure out why it's damp as moisture will always keep a room cold

if the room is still damp then contact HA again and get them to do something to reduce or illuminate the damp. Put it in writing, there has been enough press about the damp ring the landlords issue
