My walls had water running down them this morning

Can only afford to have the heating on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. This morning in both mine and DS's bedrooms there was water running down the walls and all over the ceiling. I could see my breath when breathing. Me and my dp both work full time. How the hell have things got so bad that we can no longer to afford to have a home thats just a safe temperature (not even warm, just safe!). This is just so so depressing 😞

Just to add here. I am heating same like last year and we had damp issues for the dirst time ever. It was RIDICULOUSLY humid November. The frost actually helped.

I'm sorry for the responses you have gotten here OP. You haven't done anything wrong and I don't think could have done anything differently so don't beat yourself up. You are doing the best you can in frankly impossible circumstances.

I've got the heating on more than you but less than last year and have definitely noticed more condensation and damp. I don't think it means dire structural issues or the guttering needing work so don't panic about everyone saying it's that. I think this is just how poorly insulated houses in a damp climate look when they aren't being blasted with heat! I have been trying to crack open windows a bit and ventilate more but it's frustrating as it just makes it colder.

Really feel for you, please hang in there and let's hope for warmer weather soon.

@Bookworm333 has said what I was trying to say in a much more empathetic way than I did.

More practically, you can try reaching out to your council for support, they have a specific fund to help people in this kind of situation.

Also mse have a very good forum (and website) with budgeting and benefits advice and may be able to help.

Might be worth getting some sort of electric space heater - I know they are more costly than gas (not sure how they compare to an old boiler though) but generally you don't have to run them for as long as central heating to feel the effect. Might be good to get a short 'boost' of heat. We have an Ebac dehumidifier which cost around £300 at the time (bought direct from Ebac) but we've had it for years, they're very well made, and they have a warm fan function so it warms the room slightly.
