Can you recommend a good electric heater

My gas bill is much higher than my electric bill at the moment. I'm looking for a electric heater for when I work from home and also for my daughters room as it is freezing.

Any recommendations? I have fan heaters but I don't like them as they are noisy and they dry out the air.

I want something where the heat from it feels like the gas central heating.

I'm thinking maybe an oil radiator. Then started looking and there are panel radiators and infrared, all sorts.

Any recommendations? I want the rooms I use them in to feel cosy :)

I use one those halogen heaters. Creates heat, AND doubles as a light for the room you're in.

I have a small oil filled rad , its ok in small spaces with closed doors but in my bloody awful open plan ground floor its useless

The reason why your gas bill is much higher is that heating uses a lot more energy than other things. If you mainly use your electricity for things like lights, tv, fridge, etc then your electricity bill is going to be low. If you start using electricity for heating then, unless you are extremely frugal with it, your electricity bill will end up being much higher than your gas bill. Gas is much cheaper than electricity. Just something to think about.

I've got a ceramic heater it's amazing heats up so quick ...
My parents don't have central heating and they only use one of these heaters in their front room and it's so toasty . Much better than the fan heaters .

I got a small plug in oil radiator from Argos, it's good for small rooms and if I leave it on all day it costs about £2.50/3.00. It's not much good for a big room though.
Get a heated throw op they're amazing 😄

All electric heaters are pretty much the same cost and efficiency. There is no better heater in terms of cost to run.

People seem to go on about oil filled radiators that they "retain" the heat but its a load of old rot. Yes they do stay warmer for longer, but they take longer to warm up too.

If you are on a budget the convection heaters are cheapest and will put out the same amount of heat as any other type. Oil filled radiators are more expensive. The only bad thing I would say about the convection heater is that it tends to be open, so you don't want it anywhere where people/kids are likely to spill stuff into it.

I have a glass panel heater as well. That looks really smart and would look great on the wall of a modern flat. It also is wifi controlled, so if you have it in the bedroom for example you can switch it on for an hour before you go to bed from the lounge without having to go upstairs. Downside is that it is really expensive to buy (£100+), although the cost to run is the same as the oil filled radiator/convection heater.

All electric heaters are pretty much the same cost and efficiency. There is no better heater in terms of cost to run.

The exception to that is heat pumps, but their cost, size and installation makes them impractical for most people at the moment I would think.

I have a Russell Hobbs five fin oil filled radiator. It has three settings and even at the lowest 600w (about 20p an hour) it is good for heating a single room.

Typically I put the heating on the morning for an hour to warm the house up, but then just use the 600w setting to maintain the temp in the room I work in.

Our lounge is 27ft and it can just about maintain the temp in there too in the evenings - it struggles if I don’t heat the room first. So would definitely recommend, it was from Amazon, reasonably priced too. It’s top setting is 1.5kwh I think too.

To correct my post above, it’s the 7 fin version I have - I can definitely recommend it.
